Sylvanian Families

dd has set her heart on having some after playing with a friend's and getting a pair for her b'day. Was thinking of Riverside Lodge as a start(and maybe finish!) which is around £25 on internet empty or £40 in Argos with a set of figures and some accessories included. Does anyone know exactly what is included in that "offer".

dd is after rabbits and bears preferably. Any other collectors have ideas for a SF starter please, hopefully for gp's to get for Christmas. Tips for best value places to buy welcome too!

DD loved the sylvanians about 8-9 years ago (she's almost 18 now)- I still have most of her vast collection in the loft in the hope of grandchildren. A lot of hers came from car boot sales - we didn't have ebay in those days - but she did get some special ones for birthday & Christmas The canal boat was her absolute favourite - she got it from GPs for Christmas with the otter family, but she also loved the windmill, where the squirrel Douglas Furbanks & family lived, and the village store.

DD's boat looked a bit different on the outside (it's about 8 years old now), but if the inside's still the same, it's got two rooms with tables & benches that turn into bunks & extra bunks that you can hook on to the walls at night & in the middle there's a little toilet & shower compartment with doors that fold back. There are lots of little storage compartments for the washing line etc.

There used to be a Sylvanian club with a little magazine every quarter & it had stories about the Sylvanians & where they lived, but DD just put the families she liked best in the good houses!

The club also used to send you a birthday card & there were pictures of people's collections - some of them took up whole rooms - one girl's dad built her a town right round the loft, with all the houses on a long bench & a railway going round.

mil got one or two for dd2 at TKMAXX so it might be worth looking there if you're handy to one.

Toys R us also do them...very expensive though. We have the canal boat too and the tree and the school. my eldest dd played with them till she was 10. Try boot fairs and attic fairs and ebay? amazon?

LIZS · 12/11/2007 19:38

Woeful range in Toys r Us too yesterday - was hoping dd might decide exactly what she wanted.

Is there a Fenwicks near you - they have them and I think John Lewis do to?

DD loves the canal boat. Advantage of the boat is it comes with all the furniture bits you need. You just need a family on top.

Our Riverside Lodge came empty. We also have the nursery school and the church, plus some animal sets and some babies.

We find the smaller and independent toy shops are better for SF.

Theer was a very good website with free delivery, think it was their own.

Dd1 has the gypsy caravan which is wonderful. It is very sweet!
Dd2 has the canal boat and uses it a lot.
They both have a couple of families, and use their dolls house as a sylvanian house.

I agree about the canal boat. DD has it and plays with it a lot. She also got the figure with the little rowing boat to go with it. He looks like a captain.
