Can anyone recommend an electronic toy without US accent for 3.5 yo?

Yes, they are tacky, plastic, noisy, irritating and eat batteries but DS would enjoy one. I wish to insist on one with 'UK English' though. In an ideal world it would be a laptop type design with lowercase letters and supporting synthetic phonics.

Any chance of this? Please don't just tell me to get a chalk and slate!

Leap pad systems? Not sure if they support phonics though. Try looking on Early learning Centre website.

A real one is lovely Kerrymum, but a toy one is awful.

That's right Kerrymum - nothing wrong with American accents per se (I could listen to someone with a Pacific NW accent all day - even if they were only reciting the telephone directory). But my DS is growing up in England, so of course I want him to sound like the Queen. (Or maybe not!)

The American voices sound nicer than the English ones IMO!

breadgirl · 11/11/2007 15:26

Have checked and it says 'zed' for z

Nbg · 11/11/2007 15:44

We got dd a Vtech challenger laptop last month and that has a british male voice on it but it is immensly annoying.

"la la, lets dance"

Oh feck off.

Give me an american accent anyday!

This VTech playtime bus thing is great, it has letters, music and british accents. ours is 3.5 and although he's liked it for ages, hasn't gone into all the functions yet.

Link here:

TBH it takes up a lot less space in the toy cupboard than laptop shaped things.

Have checked and it definitely has "Zed" for Zebra

grannyslippers · 11/11/2007 16:09

But perhaps it is aimed too young?
