  1. About 10
2. Depends if I'm at home - if yes then 3 in a day. If not then 1 if DH uses one for breakfast 3. About 12 4. Still using

Probably helps that DS was bf and not too sicky so haven't had to have too many. But they are looking a bit disgusting so might need some more

Hulababy · 31/10/2004 21:11

I haven't bothered with bibs for DD (2.5yo) for past year. I did used to get in the odd disposable ones for when going out, but gave up on them quickly. I now just choose her food ore carefully when out and about, and select the least messy! And I always carry spare top too, just in case.

At home she's been known to eat in just her vest or bare chested - especially with things like spag bol.

I just couldn't be bothered with carry them around (especially once messed up) and having to keep replacing them.

ha ha!! Same here Hulababy - ds1 (3.5) hasn't had them since he was about 18 months either. Easier to take his top off at tea time as he's going in the bath after anyway! Ds2 is almost 2 and he's not used them for months and months either. Just too much hassle!

PicadillyCircus · 31/10/2004 21:13

DS is 11 months by the way

yurtgirl - my friend still uses bibs with her DS, who is just 3 (September), so not the only one no.

beansmum · 31/10/2004 21:40

1 How many bibs do you own? 15

2 How many do you use in a day? 0, never use them although bean is the dribbliest baby ever. change his shirt if it gets too bad. if I put a bib on him he always ends up grabbing it and strangling himself

3 How many have you bought in total? 0

4 How old were your kids when you finally chucked them away? haven't yet, bean is 22wks, they're sitting in a box under my bed along with all the things he's grown out of/never worn

I have bought one of those bibs with arms, don't think he can strangle himself with that!

jamiesam · 31/10/2004 22:30

How many bibs - far too many to count - recently consigned large box full to attic.

Use - one a day - bought or given one of the plastic food catcher bibs that we bring out for every mealtime, then rinse and dry.

Bought at least 30.

Stopped using them for ds1 when he was around 2 - still on his case every meal time about table manners, poor mite. Still using them for ds2 - eats most of his meals with hands and spoon - including porridge, yog etc etc.

Branster · 31/10/2004 22:35

I only bought 6 bibs for dd when she was a baby. would often wash them by hand when doing the washing up and put them to dry in the airing cupboard. then I bought a plastic bib with sleeves from mothercare and a better one from PHP and it all became so easy all of the sudden.
I have also found that not many bibs cover the neck very well so I fashioned myself, from old kitchen towels a couple of 'bibs' which would drape over dd's shoulders (just cut a rectangle shape at one end and pulled that around the neck).

lulupop · 01/11/2004 08:51

I think your bib-usage sounds very reasonable, Yurtgirl! I shudder to think of the total expenditure on bibs in this household - DS used them till about 18months when he started to use a napkin instead. Both he and DD were (are) very sicky babies. In answer to your questions:

  1. About 30
  2. Anywhere between 5-15 (last week DD went through 11 by lunchtime one day!)
  3. About 40 (the crappy Mothercare ones weren't very absorbent so I chucked them)
  4. Still using for DD, she BFs and has solids, but doesn't restrict her sickiness to mealtimes - it can come up at any time!

As for the cost... I started off with plain cheapo ones, but then I realised that since she wears them all day, and they effectively cover up whatever nice outfit she has underneath, I might as well get a couple of pretty ones. So now we wear the cheapo ones whilst at home, and put a prettier one on for going out. Ridiculous, I know.

childmindersam · 01/11/2004 09:15

ok my answers

1: 25 (have one very dribbly 10 month old and change hers up to 10 times a day so she doesnt get sore!
2: 10-15
3: over 50
4: still put them occasionally on 4 year old depends on what he wearing and what he eating!

we had loads when DS was small as he had reflux and was constantly bringing up something [grin. Now he's 12 months and no more reflux so we have two of the felixble plastic catcher bibs which we use at all meal times and rinse and dry in between. I really like them as they are easy to clean and roll up so easy to take out with you.

lulupop · 01/11/2004 13:09

yurtgirl, I wondered about that too. maybe they are sponsoring the whole Products bit now?
