Just wondering what to get and put on my daughter's wish list. She will be 2 yrs and 3 months at christmas. Any big hits or big no no's?

TIA

DD is 2y 7m now and her current favourites, and Christmas wish list as well, include:

Current fave play things:

  • Baby Annabel - got her last Christmas and she is played with daily)
  • Kitchen (got that at birthday and again a huge hit), along with loads of food, pots, plates, etc.
  • Happy Land (ELC) house, train, etc.
  • Dolls and doll related toys (pushchir, highchair, bath stuff, etc.)
  • Books - and hundreds of them!!!

Chrismas list includes:

  • VTech V.Smile (costs about £50)
  • ELC Enchanted Palace
  • Cabbage Patch Kid (!!!)
  • More Happy Land stuff
  • ELC Art Centre/Easel
  • Anything related to Disney Princesses - my sister has got her the Belle dress, plus she is getting accessories and related things, also My First Disney Proncess dolls.
  • Tomy AquaDraw
  • Toy cars and a little road mat

Her great grandad has also recently made her a doll's house (wooden) and furniture which we are due to pick up this month. He's also made her a desk that she uses loads.

At PILs house she also has a swing outside (got for her birthday) which she loves.

I found Dss 2nd birthday and Xmas quite hard to buy for as msot things are 12/18 - 36 months and then 3yrs and over.

We ended up getting him a play table and loads of train stuff as he loves Thomas so for a girl i'd suggest getting a dolls house and accessories that she can grow into (maybe).

A big hit has been his easel as it is much easier to paint on that than on flat paper. we got one at Ikea and it cost £12 and you can buy rolls of paper for next to nothing to use with it as well as the black and white board.

I have to agree with hula. My dd will be 2 on the 23rd Dec and she absolutly loves her baby Annabel and anything baby. She spends hours playing with her dolls feeding them, putting them to bed, changing her bums etc. So this Xmas she'll be getting lots of baby stuff. A real pram etc

Hulababy · 01/11/2004 08:42

BTW, I ignored the age 3 and over bit for a while now with DD. The age 3 bit generally just relates to not having small parts safety info. So, if you know your own child, you can generlly choose age 3 and over toys okay. Many of DD's current toys are int his age group, other than the Happy Land. Much of the other toys so called aimed at her age seem too babyish.

ds will be 2 at Xmas too and he is really into his dolly. He spent this morning tottering around in my heels pushing "baby" in her pushchair. So for him it would be any kind of home-play toys (he'd love one of those little brushes or an ELC kitchen). Anything which he can use to play copy mummy and daddy with! (not that we ever sweep or go in the kitchen, of course!)

fisil · 01/11/2004 08:45

that's a good point Hula, everything we get for ds says 3+ - we assume it's the manufacturers covering themselves against us suing them!

WestCountryLass · 01/11/2004 08:46

Yeah, thats the thing, 2 yr toys are too babyish but some 3yr things are too complex (like VTech My First Computer or My First Leap Pad etc). A hard age to buy for.

woodpops · 01/11/2004 08:47

I ignore the age 3 bit as well. At the end of the day ds is 3 so there are plenty of 3 year old toys around the house that dd plays with. The pram we've brought her for Xmas is for 3 year olds!!!

babykeyboard

My ds love this. Only thing is that I couldnt find it anywhere but amazon. But the delivery was really quick (2 days).

Hulababy · 01/11/2004 08:50

WestCountryLass - have you looked at the vTech V.Smile? That is from 3 years too, but my 2.5yo DD played with the Winnie the Pooh game on it in Boots a couple of weeks, and really got into it. Hence we are getting her that. Costs just under £50 from Argos, and comes with a free packpack and Lion King game (same age range). Goes up to 7 years, by using different features ont he games and other catridges too.

Hulababy · 01/11/2004 08:52

We have theat Baby Keyboard too. Not used it for a while, must get it out again. That is from 12 months upwards, but the games exapand with it. Fits over your normal keyboard. We got ours from Toys R Us.

Massive hit with my dd (was two in september) - a dressing up trunk from Grandma. She loves it and so does DS (4 and a half). Think it was from Great little trading co - will get years out of it as there are so many outfits but everything fits her now (altho a bit long!)

throckenholt · 01/11/2004 09:31

wooden trainset (like brio) ?

LIZS · 01/11/2004 09:39

Play kitchen with accessories ?

LIZS · 01/11/2004 09:55

Sorry phone rang and I hit to post too soon.

How tight are you for space. dd (3) loves her trampoline with handle and would definitely have used it earlier had we had one, Little Tikes climber (which doubles as a house!), Little People and Duplo sets, Dressing up and role play toys (such as Ironing board !), books including the FP Toddler Little People Activity books from the bargain bookstores... She has a Leapfrog Imagination Desk which she loves but is on the decline in UK and computer software - Starting School and Winnie the Pooh.
