What do you think of the micralite toro?

Am Mrs Indecision about buggies, and we've not found one we like yet - but I went to see a Toro yesterday, and it looked possible. But what are they really like? Does anyone have one and love it/loathe it?

Here's what I think I want from a buggy:

  • light enough to carry up and down from station platforms
  • ok to take on the bus (that's both not too wide for aisles, and foldable in extremis)
  • really nice to walk long distances with - mostly urban, but bumpy pavements, kerbs etc., a bit of gravel
  • can carry some of my shopping!
  • DS needs to be able to sleep comfortably in it
  • good for tall people (I'm 5.10. dh (who hates pushchairs, so probably won't use it much) is 6.3)
  • able to fit into an ordinary sized car (we don't have one, but rent when we need one; I don't want to have to rent a much bigger car just to take the pushchair!)

Seemed to me the Toro fitted most of this list, though I was a bit surprised by just how much larger it is than the fastfold when folded.

Please advise!

We went to this as wanted a stroller and were put off by how big it is folded comp to the fastfold too. Before that we looked at a Jane Carrera too which we liked. In the end have bought Mountain Buggy breeze 2nd hand but not got it yet and not sure how the fixed wheel will be. Someone on MN had a Toro think it was TrixyMalixy or similar mn name and she loved it

bumping for trixymalixy (?sp?) then, or anyone else who knows about them!

thanks onelittlelion, it's so difficult isn't it!

anyone back from work and know anything about this?! silence on it is definitely making me dubious about it!

We have a Toro (for 4 motnhs) and have got on really well with it. I think it would fit all of your criteria but not so sure about the height. I am 5'8 and find it just tall enough, though the handles are adjustable. We have swivelled our handles outwards. Ds looks very comfy in it. We use to have a bugaboo gecko and I really didn't like the seperate seat and chassis and also it took up too much room in the boot. I am much happier with the Toro and we have taken in abroad twice and it travelled well. I don't plan on buying a second 'small' buggy (ie maclaren) which I did have for my dd when she was young as I find the Toro suits all purposes.

bettybeetroot, thank you v much for answering! good to know you don't think you'll need a Mclaren as well. I am going to try and drag DH to the shop to look at it tomorrow, and see if he reckons he could make a different kind of longer handlebar so that it was more comfortable. Or add something on to make it easier for tall people.
if anyone else has a toro, then I'd still welcome other comments!
thanks...

I have a Toro and I love it. My DS is really comfy and sleeps well in it .

I think it would pretty much fit all your criteria.

I am 5'8" and my DH is 6' and we both find it comfortable to push with the handle adjusted up slightly.

It does take up a bit more space than the fastfold when folded but still loads less space than comparable prams.

trixymalixy · 09/11/2007 22:40

The only downsides are that it can feel a bit flimsy compared to heavier prams, but that's the price you pay for it being so lightweight.

The bumper bar is slightly annoying in that you can't take it off when the child is in the pram although you can lift the whole hood.

Just minor niggles though, I still think it's great.

littlefrog · 12/11/2007 17:39

sorry, i kind of lost this thread - thanks Trixy! You're so right: we all want light prams that feel solid ie heavy to push! I think we might go for this - am going to take DH to visit it and see what he thinks.
