can't believe I'm posting this -- but help me find a tablecloth

The house we're in has a lovely wooden table which belongs to the owners and I don't want it destroyed. Any suggestions for a good tablecloth and under-thingy (if such a thing exists)?

Thanks!

That's what we use, YG.
Which country are you in, now, JJ? Anyway, for an upmarket version of YG's suggestion I'd try John Lewis.

LMAO. This had to happen sooner or later . Next will come the posts about our awful DILs and how they just don't understand our wonderful sons.

JJ · 29/10/2004 18:14

Hmmm, not wipeable, really, but waterresistant underneath. I think I'm going to get this one if the size is right with this underneath.

Thanks! >>hobbles away mumbling to herself about napkins to match

now where's KS when you need her

There's an American website Denver fabrics that sells flannel-backed oilcloth at a reasonable price, you just measure the length of your table and order that much.

Beetroot, I would, but the boys can inflict too much damage to trust just a thin coat of wax.

Bran, thanks! I think I'll get one of those for the kitchen table (also not ours).

I don't want to end up buying the tables because of damage caused, so must use something.

Hi JJ, long time no see ! Hope all is well and sorry didn't get to see you before you left .

Just thought I'd add that you can get that underlay stuff cut to size in JLP if the table is an odd size, or if it extends you may want two.

sunchowder · 29/10/2004 19:08

Very cool selection on tablecloth! I think the oil cloth is great too Bran. Felt underneath the tablecloth will help with dings, but not for spills. I would wax the table first, get the tablecloth you want and get a pad or felt for underneath. Good Luck!

MTS you took the words right out of my mouth!

expatkat · 29/10/2004 19:17

Welcome to London, JJ. John Lewis on Oxford Street apparent do under thingies. . .but you should go equipped with the table measurements. John Lewis is also good for kitchen-y things. . .and I think I saw cake moulds in dif shapes there yesterday. (Remember you'd asked about the bear mould? Apparently my MIL got it at the kitchen shop in Windsor, but they don't stock them at the moment.)

expatkat · 29/10/2004 19:18

Oh--you seemed to have figured it out yourself! (I just checked out your links.)

JJ · 29/10/2004 22:11

Thanks again!

Sunchowder, thank you! The design goes well with our house -- the guys that own it seem to be into that sort of thing. And it's easy to wash.

LIZS, sorry we didn't get to see you. I kind of shut down in RL between the end of the summer holidays and the time we moved. I still reckon that your eldest and mine could have been great friends had we been a bit closer.

Expatkat, when I buy a cake mould, I will need the recipe -- did you post it? Will definitely be referring to that thread, though. And the plate warmer! OMG, I nearly forgot about it. Will email you.

To finish this, have ordered the tablecloth, underthingy and some black napkins (they will match the tc and the area best). I'm going to order some chalkboard oilcloth from the place bran listed for the kitchen table -- it'll be fun and look good. (Thanks!)

JJ i have that under stuff from JL - it's great though we have recently binned antique rosewood dining table so you can have it if you want - is round though. (not literally binned just given back to APs)

JJ · 29/10/2004 23:21

Thanks, CD. The reason we have these tables is that they are far too difficult to get out of the house. They'd have to go over the wall and through the back neighbour's house we've been told!

But the table sounds lovely. What does AP stand for, though?
