Cot beds - is it safe to ..

Remove one side completely while LO is tiny so that I can put it right up against my bed as you can do with some cots?

On the ones I've seen which have a drop side the side doesn't drop all the way down.

If I can do it, does the mattress have to be exactly the same height?

Any tips?

I dont see it being a problem - as long as there is no way the baby can roll out of the cot onto the floor! There are usually only three settings for the base, but with a bit of measuring you could get the cot mattress at the same height as your bed - you would just need to drill some new holes!!!!!!!!

can't see a problem either (and if you don't want to drill holes, put something under cot feet or under cot matress to adjust?)
tiny ones don't tend to move much and it does sound like it would be easier for u!

I did that with my ordinary cot for dd and ds. It was fine. It was lovely to be able to slide them over to me for a night feed and then slide them back for a better nights sleep for me. Coincidently one of the matress heights was exactly the same height as our mattress but if it hadn't been I would have put towels under the cot mattress to make it the same height.

Towels is a good idea! It may also give DH an excuse to buy a drill - the reasons are mounting! Thanks for your responses.
