Heelys - If I get these for daughters' Christmas present, will they be just a 5 minute wonder?

DD2 has asked for these for Christmas and I think dd1 would also like them too. However, due to the cost I was wondering whether any of your dcs have them and did you think you got value for money out of them?

Don't want dh saying 'I told you so' after Christmas, as he went when I told him that's what dd2 had put on her Christmas list (after the real-life piglet you understand)

Btw, last Christmas they had the wheelies that you strapped round the shoes. Both dds loved them, but unfortunately they weren't made to last and bolts kept coming off 'em. GRRRRR!!!!

They are really good value for money, as long as your childrens feet don't grow too quickly...they are very expensive to replace otherwise

PestoPyromaniacMonster · 05/11/2007 13:18

Good point, maybe I'll sneekily get their feet measured again before if I buy them.

my dd used hers for about a year until her feet got too big. i thought she got good value out of them.just be sure she has somewhere to use them that is safe lol.they are banned in so many places now( quite rightly)

happystory · 05/11/2007 13:31

My dd felt very uncertain on hers and wouldn't practise and by the time she felt like trying, her feet had grown too much...

PestoPyromaniacMonster · 05/11/2007 13:31

Wow, a year, that's good! We have a great area to use them where we live, but wasn't sure whether they're worth the money really.

Oh no Happystory, that's not too good. That's what I'm afraid of really. How old was your dd at the time?

My DD got some in spring and loves them however agree with whoever said that they're banned. seems like the airport is the last bastion for wheely-iers

MerlinsBeard · 05/11/2007 13:35

nooooo don't do it! I hate these shoes. skating on your heels and when you walk you have to walk on your tip toes, they are banned in EVERY shop i go in as well as at school including disco's/fairs/and non uniform days!

not to mention the horrible noise that an arm makes when someone who can't use them properly breaks their arm coz they can't stop(i have heard it its not nice)

can you not just get roller skates?

PestoPyromaniacMonster · 05/11/2007 13:36

Oh

They've both got roller blades and do use them a lot. They're both quite whizzy at it too. However, dd2 wants the latest fad - Heelys - and now I'm dithering over what to do.

happystory · 05/11/2007 13:39

dd was 9 when she got them. but if your dd is already good on blades, she'll probably take to it better...

haychee · 05/11/2007 13:40

My dd has them, she is an on the go type, not one for sitting still much.
She loves them, we have the kind where by the push of a button the wheel slips back inside the sole and they can be worn as ordinary shoes. One push of the button and their transformed back into heelies again.

She doesnt use them as much as she did in the summer, just too cold and dark to play out much.

But i would say they where money well spent.

Had no problems stopping etc with them, it was mastering how to balance and stay wheeling that was the problem for us. She has got the hang of it now though.
Actually it kept her busy for some weeks trying to master it
