Tricotti sling - calling expert and seasoned users, please give me your wisdom!

Hi,
Following a previous thread about tricotti sling, I gathered (after measurements and comparisons with other MNetters) that a Small size would be suitable. I'm size 10/12 pre-pregnancy and a 36A chest size. Post-birth, I am currently size 14 and 38B.

Also, I checked with a friend who is a seasoned user - she is wider than me and much more big-breasted, and her's is a Medium.

My problem now is, the sling feels rather tight. I've only used it about 5x and I'm worried that I've gotten the wrong size. When I carry my 8wk old DS in it, he wriggles and fusses. His head is almost touching my chin! Is this normal? He feels too tightly stuck to me.

Have I made the wrong decision? Or is this the norm before the sling stretches out in due time? Should I persevere?

Thanks!!

Hmm, the slings do stretch.
I have the opposite prob, my small becomes too saggy after a few wears and needs washing to tighten it up again!

What size are you, Kitty? And what about your baby?

Bumping too to catch the weekend night MNers.

Is it one of those that goes around and around and around and around and... until you explode? Cos I had one of those, and they are pretty tight - I think the idea is that a newborn is used to being squeezed and so finds it comforting. Have to say that DS2 hated it though.

The tricotti has 2 slings - they go on each shoulder. I know which one you mean that goes round and round. they look too complicated.

I am quite small 8-10 . My baby at the mo is long and lanky . I wore it today , it was newly washed and i had him facing outwards. I thought of you as I was carrying him actually! His head was at my chin level, nice and high. he loves it!

kittycrackles · 04/11/2007 19:48

However , the baby before him didn't like it at all, she was and still is a big girl. The baby before her was quite diddy and she liked it. Don't know if there is a correlation or not?

Kitty, just wondering - if your DS's head was at chin level, was the fitting quite snug and tight?
I'm also thinking, if you are 8-10 and sling is loose, and I'm 10-12 and sling is tight, I suppose I did get the right size afterall, and a Medium would have been too big. I guess I should persevere with it!

Yes, snug is better, that way they're held nice and securely. I'm sure small is the right size for you

Thank you, Kitty! I feel more reassured.

Medium would be too big. I am a 16 (34f and 5'8")and have a medium and my dd2 (14 months) stretches it too far to be hands free.

greenday · 07/11/2007 10:58

Thank you Melting! In fact, in the last few days, I've been persisting with the tricotti, despite DS's wriggling and protests, and it has stretched considerably and now find that DS doesn't seem to mind all that much anymore. Yay!!! Feeling so relieved that I did not waste buying a wrong size.

Well, they're not cheap are they?

greenday · 08/11/2007 11:19

Just for 2 pieces of cotton that can be easily sewn up DIY .. now, it's one of those ingenius 'why didn't I think of that?' ideas!
Also, they fetch quite a good price on ebay. A used one can fetch up to £25.
