Help with cot bedding

I think dd (2 years) is now ready for a duvet. I've had a quick look in John lewis, vertbaudet and kiddicare and I'm now a bit confused...
What exactly is a quilt??? And do you not need a duvet cover with them? Is that ok? They must take ages to dry if you have to wash them so often...

i got a cotbed sized duvet and pillow from dunelm mill and also got a duvet cover set.....that was basically a small version of what we use on our 'grown up' sized beds!!

was very cheap too when compared to the prices i saw in mothercare!!! i think it came to a total of £35 and a duvet and pillow set i saw in mothercare was around £50 plus i'd have needed the duvet set on top of that too!!!

I always took a quilt to be a duvet, suppose it's not really but at 2 she's old enough for a duvet anyway.

I think you're meant to use a flat sheet between a quilt and dd, if that makes sense

ok, I get it. I need a duvet and a duvet cover then.

Any good online suggestions?

Thanks
