xplory, worth it?

Sorry if this has been done to death...

I have a one year old, I'm contemplating buying an xplory (I've just gone back to work and have been paid!) as I like the idea of him being high. I use a sling a lot but my back is really starting to protest.

Does any body love it or hate it?

for a one year old- i wouldn't. I love the xplory but find that its lack of folding and the weight of lifting it is a downside.

stunning pram and very manouverable but not sure if you would be happy with it for long. sorry

NorthernLurker · 02/11/2007 23:10

My personal opinion is no I wouldn't buy them. The people I see pushing them all look vaguely uncertain somehow....but then maybe they're thinking 'why is that mad woman staring at my pram?' I think the height thing is definately a gimmick that you can live without - its not like babies are down at floor level in other prams and I do think they look unstable plus the shopping carrying capacity looks rubbish. If your back is bad then I would get something with really big wheels (swivel at the front) - or spend the pram money on some physio
But then I've never tried one so what would I know.....now if you were thinking Bugaboo I could give you an informed opinion

My twopenceworth...

Probably a bit too expensive for an older baby. You may not get your money's worth for the time you will use it. If you were planning to use it for another baby later then maybe.

It is lovely to push and had loads of brilliant features but is heavy to lift in and out of cars. Something to consider if you have back problems.

IMO the Xplory is v well built good quality product but is artificially expensive to put it at the very top end of the market, ie a 'luxury' product. Jusy my opinion though.

BrownSuga · 05/11/2007 09:50

i love it. very easy to push. i have very bad back and don't find it a problem folding and lifting into car etc.. only downside i guess is that it's in two parts, so can't take on planes for holidays.

I love my Xplory and does DS (don't know how he's going to react to DC2 coming along and having it, but we'll worry about that later). As Teaandcake says, I'm not sure it would be worth you getting it for a one yo, unless you were going to have another one, because it is quite expensive, but I can only sing it's praises.

I have a bad back and leg and it's been like a walking frame for me because it's so easily manoeverable. I haven't turned it round so that DS is facing away from me because we like to talk to each other and I can't hear him if he's facing away. I've also kept it at the highest position because I don't have to bend down to strap him in.

They are very very stable. I can fit my week's green groceries in the front bag, and often eight pints of milk too (bit heavier than recommended, but never mind). The only time it's been pushed over is when DS tried to mountaineer on it in the house and I imagine that any pushchair would do the same.

My physio actually recommended the Xplory.

For me, it's not a luxury, it's absolutely essential when I'm out and about and it means that we do actually get out!

NorthernLurker · 05/11/2007 14:37

pigeon pie - I stand corrected and am very impressed by the amount you can get in yours! I overload my basket too
Now the xplory owners round here will really think I'm mad as I peer ever more closely at their pushchairs Good to hear you find it stable - I would never have thought that. Good luck with dc2.

HappyFeet06 · 05/11/2007 16:41

Yes, Yes, Yes, definately get one. I have just got one for my dd who is 16 mths. I have had one before and sold it as it was too big for the bus and I don't drive. That was the only downside to it. I have missed it ever since and have now bought another as the buses around here have now all been changed to the low rider ones where you can walk on without having to fold the buggy.

Great for talking to baby when rearward facing as they are so high up. Great to push and so many different seat heights and handle heights.

I think they are a fab pushchair and I would highly recommend them. x

Northern I think quite a few of us Xplory owners are quite used to mad looks from people. I am always amazed at how many people still stop me (particularly round Milton Keynes for some reason) and ask me about it, or even comment on it as I walk round my local town and I've been doing that now for two years!

Thanks for the good luck with DC2.

LyraSilverSparklers · 05/11/2007 17:04

Is this the one that looks like a supermarket trolley?

PigeonPie · 05/11/2007 17:53

I don't think it looks like a supermarket trolley - you can see for yourself here

LyraSilverSparklers · 05/11/2007 17:56

In certain positions they do.
Here

ScottishMummy · 05/11/2007 18:20

gillhowe if xplory meets your needs, and you like it why not it does hold its resale value too on ebay etc. your wee one is not going to get any lighter either

no experiential comments to offer

anecdotally i have been told they are heavy @10kg and not too good on rough terrain

but don't let me put you off

HappyFeet06 · 05/11/2007 19:53

They do not feel heavy to push but if you are constantly putting it in and out of the car boot then do consider this. As I walk all the time mine stays unfolded in the kitchen.

I like the look of it but yes be prepared for comments and people stopping you. They do hold their value well for a resale point of view. I am going to be using mine until dd no longer needs it and we have plenty of pram time left.
