does anyone have any recommendations of useful books for a 2 (nearly 3) year old - about mummy being pregnant and the arrival of a new baby?
Rhiannon · 29/09/2002 20:55
No but I recommend that the new baby has a gift in the hospital that he/she gives to his/her new big brother/sister.
Our new baby DD 'bought' our DS a box of Lego which he thought was fantastic. He ran round the ward with it shouting "look what my sister got me".

Isn't there a book by Babette Cole, called "Mummy laid an egg", or something similar?

ZaZa's Baby Brother, by Lucy Cousins ( I think).
It's lovely. It's all about a family of zebras and their new baby.

Grace's New Baby (or something like that) comes highy recommended... Very pretty, though, and perhaps better for girls than boys (I just knew DS wouldn't get into it at nearly 2yo).
You can look on Amazon.

Little Tigers Big Surprise is a good one, and Waiting for Baby which we got in the ELC. We also had one with a photo story rather than illustrations which both my dds still love looking at, it's American (but got it here) just called Baby (I think!).
I found looking with dd1 of pictures/video of her when she was tiny (and when I was pg with her) helped a lot. Also after dd2 was born, as in "Mummy did this for you too, look!" helped with any potential jealousy. HTH.

We had a Topsy and Tim book about a new baby, it even included a picture of mum breastfeeding. We also had one by Danielle Steele - Max's new baby, which I bought in a bargain book shop and I think that one dealt with jealous feelings a little bit.

We used a gorgeous book called "there's a house inside my mummy" - especially good if your 2/3 year old is a train-mad boy!

Waiting for Baby, got it in the Early Learning Centre,And Topsy and Tim and The New Baby. Both still favourites nearly 3 yrs on.
The other thing my dd1 liked and dd2 now enjoys is looking at adult Baby books, we've got a Mothercare one that shows each week as the baby grows, how it looks new born etc. They both still love looking at it, now 5 and 2 1/2ish! HTH.

Aloha recommended a book on a different subject from the childrens project www.childrensproject.co.uk which I have looked at - they have another one called "hannah is a big baby now" which they sell as being ideal for parents expecting another child. Might be worth a look.
