Depending on how active your toddler is, I would go for dungarees and a coat. My DS gets really sweaty as he races around like mad - really soaks his clothes [yuck] so he needs to be able to take the coat off whilst keeping his trews dry and clean!

They are muddy puddles ones, I got unworn from a charity shop for £2 (coat and dungarees) They don't wash up brilliantly, but I'm not that fussy they are for playing in the garden, planting veg, mucking out horses etc.

He does have some rubbery dungarees, came from USA, which clean up brilliantly.

I have one by 'Baggers' and I'm not sure on the other one.
They are very good for woodland walking if your Lo tends to fall over a lot in wellies with lots of twigs leaves underfoot as mine does!
You get back to the car, then remove the wellies, then 'peel' the child, revealing a clean one!
Mine wear them over snowsuits or 2 pairs of joggers and 2 sweaters.
They are not warm alone IMO but quite windproof and waterproof.
We have ever had any wet knees or bottoms after peeling.

We have dungarees from SOmerfield - they are great.
Ds2 hasan all in one suit which a friend gave us

TheOriginalXENA · 28/10/2007 22:26

I was worried tbh that they would get too hot in a suit so I'll go with dungarees. How big do they come up?

I never managed to get DS1 in the all in one waterproof suit that someone gave us.... he viewed it as an instrument of torture and gave an appropriate tantrum whenever it came out.
Hoping for better luck with ds2 this winter.
For ds1 I will 2nd the dungarees with normal coat as he runs about such a lot, and just sees them as trousers.

Togz, from Field and Trek. We had several sizes starting from midget up to preschooler. They did two mucky children and are still pristine. Easy to clean and capacious enough to take lots of layers beneath

no, only waterproof trous and jacket.

MeltingandScreamingIcarus · 28/10/2007 23:17

Togz one. Fantastic. Got it big and it did for 2.5 years you can bring it in to size with all the velcro bits. Still looks new and dd2 will be in it soon.

MeltingandScreamingIcarus · 28/10/2007 23:17

togz one breathable iirc.

Capers · 31/10/2007 21:16

Another vote for Togz dungarees. Fab. Have them for the 1yo and about to buy them for my bigger boy.

nannyL · 31/10/2007 22:51

they are FANTASTIC... the ebst rain suits i have ever come across...

when i (eventually) have my own chidlren they will have the same muddy puddles all in one suits, not any other brand!

bagpuss · 31/10/2007 22:54

Yes, I agree with nannyl, we have muddy puddles stuff here too.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 31/10/2007 22:54

where can u buy them from?

dd3 is walking further distances and wont be aprted from her werllys but the rest of her gets soaked.

nannyL · 31/10/2007 23:00

quite often you can get used muddy puddle suits for about a fiver on ebay.... they seem to last forever and definitley last for more than 1 or 2 children so i would be happy to have a used one.
Otherwise www.muddypuddles.com/

Miaou · 31/10/2007 23:06

Another vote for muddy puddles - they are fantastic! When my dds were little we lived on a farm and they practically lived in them - they were the only waterproofs they grew out of before they stopped being waterproof iyswim!
