So what prams/pushchairs DON'T work well with a buggy board?

DS will be 2.9 when the new baby arrives so no need for a double buggy but will definately need a buggy board as he is quite lazy when it comes to walking.

Was thinking maybe an M&P pliko or the silver cross version.

DH would like a 3 wheeler type but I'm not sure if the soingle handle bar would cause a prob? Any ideas?

Single handle bar is a problem unless, perhaps, if it is extendable (I haven't tried). Its possible, but much easier with two handles.

We used a kiddyboard with single handle bar . ds just stood between the pram and inside the bar.

I found a buggy board on my pliko very hard work. It really hurt my back after a while and was difficult to steer. dd1 was 2.8 when dd2 arrived and after struggling with pliko and buggy board combo and sling and buggy combo I ended up getting a P&T E3. Even at 3-3.6 dd1 found the hill to nursery tiring and it was easier to be able to give her the option of the buggy. She is 4.7 now and still pops into the buggy occasionally.

Buggy boards are a great idea in theory but in practice are a nightmare imo. Have used with umbrella type handles and single bar and neither are great. Found I was kicking the board every time I walked, you have to lean over a lot, it is difficult to turn corners/manouver with a heavier child on. Don't do it!!!!!

Did the sling, single pushchair and buggy board combo with DS1 and DD but with DD and DS2 bought the cheapest double pushchair I could find (Graco) and it was sooooo worth it. Like on long days out, pre-school/school run etc etc etc.

with the pliko once the baby is out of pram mode you just get them to use the toddler step that is already on the back of the pliko - that is what it's designed for and very easy to use! Secret of using buggy board is to have it attached as close to the buggy as you can with them still able to use it.

CarGirl · 28/10/2007 20:40

one of the best I every use tbh was a grace mirage - very cheap and a great design for use with a buggy board.

ConnorTraceptive · 28/10/2007 20:45

Hmmm so far general consensus is that buggy boards aren't all they're cracked up to be. Just wish the little monkey would show even a slight interest in walking more than a yard!

I have a mountain buggy urban and the kiddy board was awful (even tho it has an adjustable handle) just really really uncomfortable to push. Buggy boards seem better than kiddy boards which I think are designed for 3 wheelers. The kiddyboards just stick out so far you're leaning away from the buggy to push it.

I've got the same age gap with my ds as have a few of my friends so i'll tell you what we've found. Friend 1 ds won't use the buggy board she thinks it was a waste of money and bought a maclaren twin traveller. friend 2 has a silver cross 3d and finds it very awkward in pram mode because the pram overlaps the end of the pushchair so there's nowhese for ds to stand. I've got a p3 pramette and make ds walk. He's a good walker but can be a pain and run off in the shop so when he's being difficult i put him in his stroller and lo in the sling.

I plan to replace my pramette with a stroller suitable for both dc and carry the sling with me so i can take lo out and put ds in if it's neccesary. I decided against a double because ds is happy to walk and doesn't nap anymore and is starting playgroup so i won't always have 2 with me. HTH

MerlinsBeard · 28/10/2007 21:05

If you get the pliko there are some 'steps' at the back that i used to stand DS1 on when DS2 was in the buggy. He has only just stopped going on the back (or hitching a ride as we called it!) and he is coming up 5!

You need to check if your buggy warranty will allow for use of buggy boards. When we had our 3 wheeler (big mistake) it would mean that if i needed any repairs done and it turned out i had used anything like a buggy board then i wouldn't be able to get it repaired for free.

bluenosesaint · 28/10/2007 21:09

Was going to say the same as Chattyhan ...could you sling the baby and use the buggy for your son?

I bought a buggy board for my dd1 (3.2 and verrrrrrry lazy) when i had my dd2. I HATED using it as it was sooooo awkward (ar$e stuck out everywhere ...) and my dd1 turned into a dream walker within two weeks to boot!

nannyL · 28/10/2007 21:39

IMO the only buugy / pram type thing that doesnt kill your back with a buggy board is a

mountain buggy + KIDDIE board

anything else breaks my back and i refuse to push it and make child walk instead

nannyL · 28/10/2007 21:40

(have used buggy board (ONCE) on a mamas and papas pushchair.... not used ONCE )... and never EVER again!

ConnorTraceptive · 29/10/2007 08:24

Yes I think maybe a pushchair suitable for both and a sling could be the way forward. Dreams of lovely pram that I denied myself with ds go down the toilet

FWIW (and ds1 had turned 3 when ds2 was born) after we got rid of the kiddy board ds1 used to just perch himself on the end of the mountain buggy & I could fairly easily still push it. I also always carry a pouch sling with me which has been handy, but them both in the MB has been a lifesaver at times. Although once he was 3.2 we started using his bike for most of the longer walks as he can go further that way and I can hold his hand to help him along. Don't give up on the nice pushchair just yet, it might only be a few months where things are tough but you'll be using the buggy for years!
