I'm not worried about it being reusable as Ds will probably play with it afterwards, but would prefer not to have sweets or chocs. Any ideas?

I love the ones with sweets

I bought a felt reusable one with little pockets for a gift each day, it came with a marker to go into the little felt pockets.

I bought a box of sweets & put a sweetie each in the pockets though.. so kind of defeated the purpose of not buying a chocolate one

MeAndMyBoys · 28/10/2007 14:56

We usually get ours from Past Times.

chocolateshoes · 28/10/2007 14:57

I like those Firefly and was thinking that when DS is a bit older I'd put puzzles and tongutwisters etc in each pocket. He'll get so many gifts and sweets at Christmas anyway that i don't want him to have more, and I know he'll love opening the little door and seeing the picture.

Christian book shop?

Hekate · 28/10/2007 14:59

An advent calender with no chocs?? [boggle]

Why don't you make one with your ds? So much fun.

In fact, that's such a good idea, that I think I'll do it myself with my 2!

Thank you, self.

I'm welcome.

If you know anyone who sells Phoenix cards, they also sell Advent calendars without sweets...

WestCountryLass · 28/10/2007 20:39

What about the Playmobil one?

ColumbosWife · 28/10/2007 20:46

I'd second the Playmobil one - we have bought two different ones of these a couple of years apart and they caused huge excitement every morning - you get cute little boxes of different sizes to open each day and add to a little Christmassy tableau, usually culminating in a Playmobil santa and sleigh.

Additional bonus: you have a whole new set of Playmobil to add to any more you may have, so it carries on being played with throughout the year; and/or if you are super organised you can preserve the cardboard boxes and reassemble the whole thing the following year ( though the surprise factor is obviously not so great!).

The only downside: it does take a while to construct all the little boxes in the first place.

NomDeBroomstick · 28/10/2007 20:52

I rather like this one

HappyFeet06 · 29/10/2007 12:57

We have a fabric one from GLTC. It has a blank snowy scene and each pocket contains a character to put onto the scene so by christmas you have lots of different people and things on your lovely christmas picture. I do slip in a little chocolate into the pocket aswell but that is personal preference. I would also recommend the Playmobil one.

Phoenix cards are lovely too are reasonably priced. My cousin had the catalogue the other day.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/10/2007 12:57

Oxfam sells ones with no chocolates.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/10/2007 12:58

The Phoenix cards ones are lovely too.

lucykate · 29/10/2007 12:59

another vote for a playmobil one, we got one last year, dd loved it. they are about £10 but re-useable every year

OrmIrian · 29/10/2007 13:01

I got fed up with this last year. I don't want chocolate ones - the pictures always seem so dull. I found some fantastic ones online but it cost me nearly £17 with p&p ...which I found to say the least. Especially when I found the same ones half the price in a local Christian bookshop. If you have one near you, try there first.

MorocconOil · 29/10/2007 13:02

Oxfam ones are really nice.

chocolateshoes · 29/10/2007 18:53

wow - thanks every one - loads of ideas here. Brilliant!

Was about to post the Orchard link but see Minum has beaten me to it. I ordered one from there today and I'm embarrasingly excited about receiving it.

MrsBadger · 29/10/2007 19:06

some here too - Matthew Rice for me...

policywonk · 29/10/2007 19:07

snigger

They do seem to have the non-choc non-fiddly-construction market sewn up

artichokes · 29/10/2007 19:09

We get a cloth one with pockets and then choose personal little gifts to put in each pocket. really fun to put together. Something like this:
