I know this has been done before and I have looked at the old threads but what would you recommend for a house that mainly has wooden floors. We have a Dyson that just keeps conking out, it's driving me mad. It's so heavy and cumbersome we've decided to ditch it and get something else. A friend has recommended Miele - the prices vary so much. It is worth getting the super duper powerful model at around £250? What do you lot think? Thanks for your help.

my mum has a miele and swears by it. I have a dyson and love it too, but you obv dont!

Everyone I know hates their Dyson and I hate mine!! It's CRRRAP! Only the hose/attachment works not the main part and this has happened to everyone else I know with one!

My friend bought a Miele one recently after ditching her Dyson and says it's fantastic. I'm pretty sure she didn't get an expensive one either because they'd just moved house and were skint!

That's what I'll be getting when I ditch my Dyson!

I've hear the Miele washing machines get great reviews too.

Bisselle- fandabydozee- wonderful- even cleans between the cracks in the tongue and groove. And you can take the cylinder bit off. The electric cable is REALLY long- I've got a 2 bed, 3 storey house and the cable reaches the whole house when plugged in the hall.
can't believe the dog hair it picks up here ( and I haven't got a dog ).
The day I ws going to buy one the Mail published parts of the Which report and the new one by hoover- The One got a real slating in it.
My Bissell has brushes that you can put on and off and they're soft so they don't damage the floor.

pixiefish · 26/10/2004 09:29

I paid £170 for mine- less than a Dyson

woodpops · 26/10/2004 09:45

I've got wooden floors throughout and have a Sebo vacuum cleaner. It's fab.

oneofeach · 26/10/2004 17:12

Thanks for all the comments - I'm always amazed how many people hate their Dysons!

i know someone who works for a well known store repairing electrical equipment and he says lots of dysons come back but he's never seen a sebo. (we have a miele which is middle of the range, i think)

redshoes · 26/10/2004 19:29

We have a sebo and I love it - very strong suction, light to move around and fab on hard floors. Bought it on recommendation of Good Housekeeping tests...

SofiaAmes · 27/10/2004 01:17

dysons are crap crap crap...sorry for swearing, but they are crap. I think that Miele's are really pretty and really overpriced.
Get a Henry for £80 at Makro's or one of the other discount stores. It will last for ever and will suck anything you will ever want to have sucked. My dh is a builder and that's what he uses for all his building rubble/dust etc. that he and the laborers are too lazy to sweep.

janeybops · 01/12/2004 00:33

I hated my dyson too - it was crap.

Considered a sebo but expensive so bought a Henry and I love it. Have carpets and wooden floors and it is great

spacemonkey · 01/12/2004 00:34

I love my Henry.

bundle · 01/12/2004 00:36

we have a blue miele which is like henry's (slightly) bigger cousin

JanH · 01/12/2004 09:38

We had our chimney swept this week and the sweep used a large Henry for the soot!

I have the black Miele, cost slightly over £100, it's brill.

SantaFio2 · 01/12/2004 09:57

so did ours jan!!! how much did yours charge? our was 20 quid and about 10-15mins entertainment for the kids!

JanH · 01/12/2004 10:03

Oh god, don't ask fio, it was £35 plus VAT

But all the local ones were booked until January, this one came all the way from Blackburn and he did have a nice Mary-Poppins-style picture of chimney pots on his van.

(Worst thing is it hardly needed doing, most of the flue was fine, it was all clogged up at the bottom - DS1 burning inappropriate things in a spirit of adventure or something probably. But we hadn't had it done for about 10 years - I think there was an interested small audience here last time!)

lulupop · 01/12/2004 10:05

i've got wood floors and love my sebo

SantaFio2 · 01/12/2004 10:08

oh well the extra is well spent on the nice pictures on the sides of his van how much do they earn though? ours turned up in a brand new freelander and lives in a big house on the sea front very jealous, i am!

JanH · 01/12/2004 10:11

The one who did ours is one of 4 working for a bloke called Vic - Vic probably has a Rolls!
