Any recommendations for good quality plain cotton duvet covers?

We just bought a house in Spain that we want to rent out and I need to buy a fair amount of duvet covers. I want plain white ones but relatively good - is Egyptian cotton the thing to get? And does anyone know what the thread count should be? I don't want to spend a fortune though as there are 4 beds and will need 2 or 3 sets for each bed.

oh I'll have a look but I just assumed they'd be quite expensive. Off to check.

they are lovely - I have a white one from there on my bed

Don't get Egyptian cotton for a rental property, they are a pain to iron and to keep looking nice. We use Out of Eden which is geared for guest houses rental cottages etc, they are really good quality, we have the cotton percale and can be washed up to 5 times per week and are still standing strong after our third season, have a look at there website, they do great towels and anything wlse you think you may need, www.outofeden.co.uk

The White Company not as expensive as I thought but it will still add up quite a lot with the number of sets I need to got.

Good point about the ironing, etc. I'll check out that website too.

Any other tips?!

Got a nice new cotton percale one from Next - it was plain white, came with pillow cases and was £30 for a double.

It feels nice quality too - would recommend

Jojay · 23/10/2007 19:40

It's easy iron too

To be honest, I probably wouldn't notice the difference between polycotton and Egyptian cotton (I'd make a crap princess and the pea), but I rent quite a lot of houses and some clients have commented on the sheets, saying they weren't 100% cotton, which is why I was planning to get Egyptian cotton for my house. I don't know what to do now...

Ikea makes 100% cotton sheets, but don't know if they have just white ones.

francagoestohollywood · 23/10/2007 20:00

I'd go for 100% cotton in a hot country like Spain, don't know why though

Furball · 23/10/2007 20:12

M&S do white 100 % double duvet covers for £25

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 23/10/2007 20:17

La Redoute? don't know what the quality's like though.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 23/10/2007 20:19

Also this and the really cheap version.

If you have one nearby then I would check out TK Maxx stores - I got a lovely white kingsize set for under £20 for my spare room - check the thread count for quality!! Try for anything over 300 but the higher the better!!!

TheStepfordChav · 23/10/2007 20:30

I only buy cotton, and I've found the best value to be from Kaleidoscope. I think they charge £3.75 for delivery & the service is v. good.

vacaloca · 23/10/2007 20:42

I was looking into thread count now. I can find 200/400/550, etc. So 200 is too low then? I'll probably settle for 400.

dont be fooled too much by thread count. a thread count means how many threads per square inch. this does not incorporate the quality of those threads so it is not the be all and end all.
i work for a linen company and we produce linens in the uk for the standard and non standard bed market. all our linens are made to measure and are of an excellent quality. we use 200 count egyptian cotton which is of a high standard. we did use 400 for a short time but it was not as good. we also do percale fabrics which is a polycotton that is of an excellant standard, i would always go for percale as i could not stand the messing about with the ironing of good cotton. percale also means that before the thread is woven it is brushed out to ensure that there are no knots or bobbles,

Check out John Lewis too - they do a wide range of plain bedlinen. I bought some from Feather and Black recently and they were very good quality. I'm not sure if they have plain white though.
