We have Thuka and they are lovely, very solid and can be changed into cabin beds/ loft beds, etc afterwards. They aren't cheap but are very good quality.

Joseph bunkbeds

in white or natural hard wood

franch · 27/10/2007 08:31

Thanks both of you

Surprisingly, MFI sells the really solid thick pine Captiva bunkbeds - I looked around a lot and thought these were extremely good value for money. Some are made of pretty thin 'wood.' I bought them and so have 2 friends of mine after seeing it in DS's room.

they look good pammo

We have Flexa beds (similar to Thuka) and they are great. Really solid, and comfortable (I have spent a few nights on them too). Also you can change configuration quite easily (we had ours as an L shaped set up for a while before the children had their own rooms). Not cheap though, but they claim to be from tot to teen. My dh's Ikea beds (bought for about 1/4 of the price) have already broken after a year, whilst mine are going strong after four, including taking them apart twice.www.flexa.dk/Default.aspx?AreaId=42

thanks nooka - will def avoid ikea then

pammo, this is the only Captiva I can find - doesn't look like it splits into 2?

ekra - I think I may order the Joseph ones - they look like just what I had in mind and seem very good value. Do you actually have them? How long have you had them? Are they pretty sturdy?

Hi Franch, I replied to you CAT. But just to reiterate here - they arrived yesterday and we are very pleased with them. They are very sturdy and well built. Definitely great value.

franch · 29/10/2007 13:57

Many thanks ekra

Still agonising ...... Thinking of this one now as it looks like it'll match their furniture better .....

OP posts:
franch · 29/10/2007 23:19

Done it! Right - nobody suggest anything else now or I'll be very upset!

I like that one a lot too and that would have been our choice if we hadn't wanted white

franch · 30/10/2007 14:50

That's reassuring ekra Thanks for all the info

Sorry, didn't reply sooner but away for the weekend. Yes, the Captiva does split into two - we have it and it's just one on top of another. I would view it on display at an MFI store first - to 'touch & feel' that's what we did.

i like our m + s ones, they are very solid and simple style, also they come and make them for you and take all the packaging away - bonus

Am I the only person who is encountering a national bunkbed shortage? I need them by the end of the month.

The M&S ones are out of stock and they can't tell me when (or if) they will come back into stock.

MFI/Captiva ones out of stock online and in stores here (and I want to see before buying those), with a 4 week lead time.

John Lewis are a bit pricey once you add on the cost of matresses too, but might be the only option.
I was disappointed with my ds's JL cot though.

Don't like the Joseph one.

GrapefruitMoon · 06/11/2007 14:04

Muffin, I ordered the M&S ones yesterday - but at a shop, not online (were out of stock when I last checked on the website).

They are supposed to be delivered before 8th December.

Have you seen website Room 2 Grow - there are some really nice bunk beds in there. My sister recently bought bunks from Argos VERY VERY similar to M&S in face she thought the quality was just about same but the mattresses were better than the Argos ones.

fondant4000 · 06/11/2007 15:40

We got Argos white bunk beds and I was really impressed by the quality = thought they would be rickety things. I climb up and down them and they feel v. secure.

Come flat pack, so you have to be OK about fitting them all together.

£200 including the mattresses!
