MAGIMIX food processors, are they *really* worth the money ?

I want to buy one for DH but they are v expensive (looking at £180 for the model I want), I just want to be sure that they are worth it.

We have a moulinex one atm, it was only a cheapy at around £50 and it isn't great. It chops etc fine but the little plastic lip on the lid that 'locks' the chopping bowl keeps snapping off and having to be glued back on again. V frustrating as the thing will not go without the lip, it acts lile a sort of security key for the mixer motor.

Are you pleased with the build quality of yours and has it lasted well ?

I've got a new Kenwood that cost 200 euros. It's very sturdy and has lots of attachments.

I'm more than happy to pay that much if I am happy that it will last

i'm looking at the kenwood - going on the fact most peoples mums had one in the 70's and is still going strong! though would love a cream kitchenaid one if i had a big farmhouse kitchen!

Reviews from Good Housekeeping that may be of interest. I have a Magimix (the medium sized model) which is good but I don't actually use it that often as the majority of my "food processing" requirements can be dealt with by my £12.99 stick blender Magimix use better motors that are supposed to last longer.

Anna8888 · 22/10/2007 13:36

I think you basically pay for the motor. The attachments don't cost much to make.

Since I tend to make batches of things that need processing, I need a good sturdy motor and a large bowl. That basically conditioned my choice - and also the fact that my previous Braun food processor cost £100 and lasted for 15 years.

I had a cheapo food processor and got a Magimix 2 Christmases ago and I love it. My sister in law got one last Christmas and loves it.

My old one was less efficient, less powerful.. this one is great. I can't comment on other comparable ones but I do recommend the Magimix. And it looks nice too.
