Make your own. Get cheapy wicker basket from B&Q or similar, then buy BIL's fave foodie treat and a bottle of wine. No way will you get any decent prepackahed for under £30 IME.

I suppose I could. I don't mean a big hamper type thing, more like a basket.

Apologies in advance for this being utterly poncey but I'm sitting looking through the new Fortnum's Christmas catalogue

Lovely foodie gifts - caso di Supper - a wooden gift box with basil infused olive oil, orange infused olive oil, grilled sweet peppers, wild mushroom sauce - £35

The window of sides - 9 different sauces in gift box - £35

The royal box or the long tea time - various teas, jams, shortbread - £40

Childrens choc hamper - £40

Splendido biscuits - 1.7kg - £33

The christmas trio - Christmas curd, Christmas marmalade, Christmas spiced preserve - £18.95

Ported stilton - in a ceramic fortnums jar - 350g - £20

I adore fortnums food - the catalogue is lovely - I will only be buying a small amount (probably cheese, and their rose and violet creams, oh and a game pie)

I would also have a look at Carluccio's for a posh italian basket

hotel chocolat?

(If it's not to his taste, you could kindly offer to help him appreciate it...)

I would make your own, where we live we have a lovely selection of local food producers (i work for one ), im sure it would cost alot less to make your own than to buy, i know a lady who makes hampers, she charge's £100+ for a hamper with 10 items including wine and cheese.

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 20:32

Thanks for all of these. Making one is a good idea and I love the look of the sites linked to.

Do you have a local deli NDP?

I did one for my SIL's birthday last year. I picked out what foods I wanted, alot of sauces, olives, dark choc blah blah.
I got the deli to wrap it for me as they offer a hamper service but I picked a lovely black card box and they charged me £5 for it.

It came out alot cheaper and at least it had stuff in that I know SIL liked.

Nbg · 21/10/2007 20:39

This is our deli but they sell the hampers online too if you want to have a look.

i making some similar hampers for my dad&step mother, MIl and my nan this year. Have been listing things I know they like and been getting them when I see them(ie where they are cheap)

I bought lovely wicker baskets from pundland, i know but they are nice

So far in them I have some mugs, a 2008 calender, teatowel, some choccies. I will be getting Dad some wine and poncy food bits. Nan some jams or something, MIL some bits made by dd. Will put some nice tea and coffee in each.

Have bought some lovely red crepe paper to line them and some really nice silver ribbon to go round or something. Need the cellophane still so going back to look at that link

So far there's loads in each one for about £10 including ribbon etc. I think each one will be about £20.
