Epilators - A few questions.

In my lazyness to avoid shaving my frizzy legs as often, I was considering getting an epilator. I've tried a few different de-fuzzing techniques but not that happy with them. My questions are -

  1. Am I going to pass out with the pain?
  2. Do you get used to how much it might hurt?
  3. Which one inflicts the least pain?

Any answers welcomed.

I had one years ago. Unless they've improved lots, I wouldn't recommend it. Pain's a lot like waxing, but it's much slower so lasts a lot longer.

I do have big fat hairy thighs, but it would take at least an hour to get them halfway decent.

I used one the other day (friends) and it flipping hurt and I've still got hairs that it didn't get rid of. I think it was about £60

I waxed for years but got fed up with the amount of money I spent on it.
Bought the Phillips Ice epliator about a year ago. Cost around £45 I think.
a) depends on your pain threshhold - I am so used to waxing, it doesn't hurt me at all.
b) You definitely get used to it - the hairs get finer the more you do it, the less it "hurts"
c) Not sure how to advise you as I've only ever had one. Would recommend it though - has an ice pack which theoretically numbs you and reduces the "pain" although, as I've said, I don't feel it much anyway so don't bother with the ice pack.

I've got the ice pack one too and have got used to the sensation. I even use it on my underarms!

I have an oldish one (about 4 or 5 years old) and so I can't comment on any of the models out now - prices, extras etc. You do get used to the pain though. I have quite dark hair and I much prefer it to the stubbly look I get quite soon after shaving. Have not shaved for years now. Use it on underarms too - hate shaved stubble armpits and so I can just quickly do armpits every few days before I have a shower. Does take quite a while to do legs properly though - like other poster said - about an hour. Can't do my bikini line with it though. Just too painful for me and I get ingrown hairs if I do. If you do start using an epilator it is well worth the money spent - prob costs about the same as 2 or 3 leg waxes in a salon and lasts for years.
