Are ALL types of baby-walkers dangerous?

I keep reading warnings about them but no details/reasons. Are the trolley-of-bricks type things OK? What are the problems??

Baby gets up to high speed on hard floors & collides with hard objects...

Stories of American parents using them upstairs with NO STAIRGATE. Yes, my compatriots are top competitors for the Darwin awards, but wish they wouldn't keep entering their children.

I find them useful if used sensibly.
There was a news story that reckoned that babies walked unaided an average of 3 weeks later if they were used to walkers. Big Deal developmental delay? -- NOT!

Ah, the trolley with bricks thing is fine. It's the seat surrounded by a highchair/activity centre that I was talking about.

yes, its the kind that a baby sits in thar are not recommended because they are forced to put weight on their legs before they are ready and developed enough. Having said that, i did end up using one with my dd once she was trying to stand, otherwise she demanded that i held her hands all day long and walked with her. she used to go in the walker *when i was cooking dinner - made life a lot easier!!

Its the ones they sit in - a seat with some sort of circle round, and they walk along in them. have little castor wheels. they can catch on thresholds in doorways and tip, or on stairs. pushalong trolleys and sit'n'rides are fine - very good, in fact.

We used to live in a one story house, and my daughters used an old hand-me-down ('cause they don't make them anymore) baby walker.

I'm surprised you've never seen a reason why they're considered dangerous - it's because of the danger of kids falling downstairs. If they're contained within a level surface then they're fine, IMO.

These days they tend to make Exersaucers instead. These allow the baby to stand up and twirl around and they have lots of toys attached, but they're stationary.
