Duplo, play kitchen/food, play doh (unless they're both still "eaters" and you'd spend the whole time taking it out of their mouthes!), mine are both boys, and these are the kind of things that worked best - train tracks, dolls houses etc tended to cause more arguments as the older one wanted to set things up and make up stories whereas the younger one just wanted to explore and chew.

sounds good thanks. Play doh is a hit with them both but for different reasons eldest loves playing with it youngest is still an 'eater' like you say!!! I do like Duplo, think I'll get some.

if you don't mind spending a bit i would say one of those island kitchens or a play house.

my DDs are now 3.5 and 2 and last Christmas we got them a wooden kitchen. They love it and play for ages together. Really glad i got the one that's an island as they play from either side, rather than alongside each other IYKWIM

i got DD2 an easel for her birthday in october and DD1 isn't that interested in it... DD2 loves it though.

Just an enormous plastic teaset - we had one from ELC with all the plates, cups, goblets, cutlery, jug, etc. fitting inside the huge transparent teapot. It was cheap & basic & lasting - and was played with nearly daily for over a year - exactly at about the ages yours are (mine are boy then girl, 18 months apart) - definitely the best-ever "pay per play" present we had.

(Just for the future: a little later, maybe 4 & 2.5 ish, we were given a game from ELC which featured some bouncy spiders on elastic; and then from around 5.5 & 4, the best-pay-per-play was a big bagful of large fake jewels - adult-thumbnail-sized roughly - in every glittering colour. Both of those are still adored & come out at least once a week - children are now 8.5 and 7.)

I've got a 1.5 yer old and a 3.5 year old (boy and girl) and they love playing tea party with their kitchen and cooking toys. They also love their farm and farm animals, dolls and cars, however, I've got one of these eco friendly cardboard houses that they both absolutely adore (it's their own private space!). I bought here: www.littlebabycompany.com . They have lots of lovely stuff for babies and toddlers!

We have a craft box in our house with loads of paints, stickers, feathers, funny foam shaped things, glue, glitter, etc. It comes out when DS (2.3)has friends over to play. They love it!
