Mini boden - generous fit?
pooka · 22/10/2004 13:50
I am thinking of buying some clothes for dd from the mini boden catalogue for the first time. Does anyone know whether their fit is generous or not. dd 15 months. Some 12 -18 months trousers (i.e. gap) don't fit round her tummy, and some (i.e. next) seem very long. I am looking to buy clothes for winter/spring and don't want to have to hold onto them for months until she's taller, or to have to return them because the waist is too small. And she's NOT a chubby girl at all - can't understand why gap trousers are a complete no no for her.
Thanks

Only ever bought 3 things fom Boden (in a sale) The sweatchirt was completely wrong size wise but this may have been because someone had put it back in the wrong box and I got 5-6yrs for my 2 year old...
But DS2 (14m - not small, probably a bit bigger than average)still wearing the 6-12m top.
Sure loads more helpful people will be along soon!
clairabelle · 22/10/2004 13:57
On the whole I think they are very generous my dd has a lot of their stuff and some of it she is wearing for the 3rd season. They seem to grow with her if that makes any sense at all.
bejewelled · 22/10/2004 13:57
They vary, I'm afraid. DD has a top which is huge, but others that are just right ....
marialuisa · 22/10/2004 13:59
Have found Mini boden to be very generously sized. DD is 3.5y and usually needs age 5 clothes but Boden's 3-4 fit her well and even have growing room! The tops aren't especially long in the body (my only complaint) but no worse than anywhere else.

Batters-we seem to share the same shopping habits for our DDs (all those Gymboree threads..) spooky
ladymuck · 22/10/2004 14:35
I've found them to be generous for boys but not overly so.
If you buy Mini Boden via mumsnet them you get 10% off as well as free returns - they include a prepaid label in the package, so it is quite easy.

Nice tops but as others have said, SHORT in the body. Dd, 15 months, is in 2-3 age t shirts. Stuff lasts and lasts though.

I may have had the odd thing Batters....
Yes, a real pain about the shops closing, but TBH I've not been as keen on their winter stuff this year. Black plastic mimi-skirts not my thang for DD!

Boden claims to size to the larger end of the scale - 3-4yrs is for a 4 year old. I find the trousers do come up on the large size - my 20 month dd has only just grown out of her 6-12month pairs. Bought her some recently in 18-24 but they are much too big - I've had to fold the ends up twice. T-shirts however seem a bit smaller - these normally fit her a lot more accurately (she fits 18-24 at moment). Recently bought her a gorgeous cardigan in 18-24 but it was a bit snug so exchanged it for 2-3 which is much better (but I can't see it still fitting her when she's 3).
I know what you mean re Gap - her 18-24 month trousers from there are too tight round her tummy but still too long in the leg. I really don't think it's so unusual for a 20 month old baby to still have a round tummy?!

Oh I KNEW someone would help me! Isn't Mumsnet great? Thanks all for fantastic response. 12-18 months it is
clary · 22/10/2004 19:15
pooka, would also say 12-18mo but it does vary... a "semi-fitted" style t-shirt will NOT be generous esp in length if that worries you (i think DD must have my long body, poor thing) but trousers certainly generous.
I have a lamby fleecy in striped neutral colours which is a 18-24mo; DS1 (now 5) wore it for ages, eventually passed it on to DD (now 3+) who wore is from a bit under 2yrs to erm, just the other day! bit small for her now, but hey, DS2 is 18mo!! good value, i find stuff, esp classic styles, wears very well.
pooka · 22/10/2004 20:11
DD also cursed with a long body and short legs - takes after her mum! Love the idea of her possibly still fitting into clothes in a year or so's time. Ching ching!
clary · 23/10/2004 00:27
pooka, sorry a glance at the catalogue they have just sent me reveals they have changed their descriptions so my ref to "semi-fitted" makes no sense...
they used to talk about eg plain T-shirt or hotchpotch T (love those) as semi fitted, i think as opposed to the very loose fit of the unisex T or the stripey roll-neck (love those too). But now they don't. Anyway, DD is 3.3 and 2-3 semi fitted t is too smal really, but 2-3 trousers still a good fit. HTH

My dd also has the long body (like her dad) and next to that her legs seem short - maybe that's why she's only just grown out of the 6-12m trousers! ...and why her tops fit her differently!
alexsmum · 23/10/2004 09:25
Glad I found this thread.I've just ordered some tops from miniboden for ds1 for the first time.Found the size thing a puzzle..5-6 goes up to 116.7-8 goes to 128.Big jump.ds is 118 so ddidn't know what to do.went for 7-8 in the end.Now you are all saying the tops are short in the body I'm glad I did.Do you think they will ok???
cupcakes · 23/10/2004 09:31
My ds is 4 - some of the tops in size 3-4 are getting too small for him yet the 5-6 is still too big (especially in trousers). I really need a size 4-5! Have just bought him a pair of 'cropped skate jeans' from the sale section of the internet site (clicked through mumsnet to get my free postage!) - they have an adjustable waist elastic so I have tightened them up and they fit him like full length trousers. Bargain for £5.50!
But I couldn't get away with full length trousers in that size! Luckily most of his 3-4 trousers still fit him really well, it's just the tops which are coming up a bit small.
alexsmum · 23/10/2004 09:36
I did get some trousers for ds2 in a sale a while ago and they are 18-24.he is only really just wearing 12-18 yet these fit ok with a small turn-up on the bottom.maybe that's why they were in the sale.
hana · 23/10/2004 11:29
I found their stuff to be on the generous side. Ordered some stuff from their summer sale a few weeks ago for dd for next summer and they seem to be just right - she's 3 and I ordered 3-4. But the sweatshrit I ordered (3-4) won't fit her for years, so I've returned that for a 2-3, and it's still quite big. Love their stuff.
Waiting for the next sale!
posyhairdresser · 23/10/2004 14:37
Boden don't have enough sizes IMO - why do they think size 5/6 will fit for 2 years? DD is now too big for 3/4 and too small for 5/6!
