Kia eNiro vs Hyundai Ioniq vs Nissan Leaf e+ Any advice?

I’ve ruled out the Hyundai Kona as being far too small and the egolf as having too short a range (plus it's small).

Now I’m left with 3 very different cars...

Hyundai Ioniq: For: good size boot, space and price. Against: 38kw battery and only 170 mile range.

Nissan Leaf 3+: For: 62kw battery and 226 mile range. Against: size? Reviews aren’t amazing.

Kia eNiro: For: looks and size, 239 miles and 64kw battery. Against: price, maybe not as big as Ioniq, even though it looks bigger.

Does anyone have experience of these cars?

Bumping for you.

Bumping again. Odd that there are no replies. Usually Mumsnetters are very helpful and informative.

When I was car shopping I looked at the Ioniq and the eNiro, much much preferred the eNiro. The Ioniq is a bit... weird looking and low in the back, really limited head room for passengers. The eNiro is great, expensive but I liked how much cabin space there was. Boot isn't huge, average size I guess, but depends what you need it for and what your priorities are.

I'd get a used (nearly new) eNiro if i were you - if you can find one Smile

When I upgrade my car next year I am going for a Kia Eniro. Seems the best rated in reviews and larger than the majority of electric cars as I will have 2 children by then both still in car seats

teaandbiscuitsforme · 06/02/2021 11:03

We're due an E Niro next month - excited to get it! We have 2 DC in HBB, just out of harnessed seats, and a dog. I am a bit concerned about boot size as our current car is massive but DH is right that these days, the boot doesn't carry that much around. Not like when we used to have the double travel system and all the baby junk!

We do travel reasonable distances to visit family and we do have some U.K. breaks (in normal times!). I think we'll be using our roof box whenever we go away for more than a weekend. I'm not concerned about charging with the range of the e Niro other than when we go to our usual coastal spot in Wales. There are hardly any charging points there!

AndWhat · 25/02/2021 21:25

We’re also looking at the eniro or the Ioniq.
My husband thinks a hybrid would be better as he’s worried we’d have to plan long journeys around electric points. I think a full electric would be much better financially for us though

Digestive28 · 25/02/2021 21:30

We have eNiro and love it.
We are fairly rural and chose because Kia is nearest garage so didn’t look at Hyundai would mean a 80 mile round trip if any problems so didn’t even consider it

FixTheBone · 25/02/2021 21:35

Test drove all of the above, E Niro was the best all rounder, went for a model 3 in the end though.

This was a year ago and a lot has changed, you've got the vw id4, xc40 and ioniq 5 and model y imminently hitting the market....

Emmelina · 25/02/2021 21:36

The eNiro is lovely, pretty good size inside actually. I looked at them but slightly out of price range at the time as they were brand new out but will be getting one in the future. Kia tend to have loads of toys for the money! It’s bigger than the leaf.

Thanks. One thing that I’m not sure on is topping up at a petrol station do you have to plug it in and sit there for half an hour or do you lock the car and leave it there?

No you can lock it and leave it. So if you're at the services, go and grab a coffee and go to the loo; if you're at the supermarket, go and grab your shopping.
MyDucksArentInARow · 03/03/2021 20:27

If it's going to replace your main car, stretch to the eNiro. Much better all rounder, much nicer interior. The range is sufficient that you'd only need to charge on a long journey when you'd probably stop for a break anyway. The leaf has rapid charge issues, so I'd discount that unless you're looking for a 2nd car to potter around in.

For every long journey you need to stop on, consider all the saved trips to the fuel station!! You can also switch to an electric car tariff like Octopus go that gives you cheaper over night charging to save money on that even.

They've all recently been on good lease deals and we've chosen the eNiro. In fact, it's delivered this week!

paddler78 · 03/03/2021 20:33

I love my Leaf - on second on so far Smilebut I am am considering the Kia when it comes time to change - a lot depends on how much space you need and access to main dealer for servicing as the really need to go to a main dealer for that.

AndWhat · 03/03/2021 22:14

It would be replacing my husband’s large estate but doing 30miles a day. He can have free charging at work so probably wouldn’t need to charge at home as we only have on road parking.
He’s nervous to lose his large boot Grin

scissy · 12/04/2021 07:59

Do you need it now?
The Ioniq 5 is coming 'soon' (1st ed already sold out), the ID.4 is taking pre-orders, not sure when model Y arrives.
It'll give you more options to consider.

Also the Kia EV6 which is bigger than the E Niro.

Just wondering how everyone is finding their electric cars? I wanted to get the Fiat 500 electric as a run around, all I ever do are short 20min max drives to places that have free charging. But also interested in these bigger ones, as I’d rather have one all rounder than two.

teaandbiscuitsforme · 08/05/2021 10:22

I love our E Niro. It suits us carrying around 2 kids and a dog! Ideally I'd have a slightly larger boot for when we go away but it's perfect for day to day.

I've not really looked into the 500e because it isn't the kind of thing we need at the moment but I'd imagine it's great as a run around providing you don't need to carry too many passengers or too much stuff.

lovelyupnorth · 15/05/2021 21:50

eNiro and Kona are the same car. Range and chassis.

CardiganBlobby · 15/05/2021 21:53

Love our eNiro - we decided against the leaf due to the weird boot shape.

Changeismyname · 15/05/2021 21:56

Friends of mine did a huge amount of research into this and ended up choosing the eniro after test drives. They have had it for nearly a year and really like it.

BakeOffRewatch · 16/05/2021 14:55

Only 1 baby, I thought the Fiat 500e would be cheap to run and easy to on street park.

I do wonder how much of my interest in eNiro is because of how many times I’ve seen the deNiro advert! I wonder much Robert De Niro was paid for those... So I feel I have to extra research to make sure I’m not just falling for glossy ad.

BakeOffRewatch · 16/05/2021 15:13

Went to Wikipedia and I know this is kind of derailing the thread, but Robert De Niro’s wiki page says:

On 19 April 2021, De Niro's lawyer argued in a virtual divorce hearing presided by a Manhattan judge that her client is "working at an unsustainable pace" in order "to support Hightower and pay off all his back taxes." Hightower’s lawyer claimed that since the pair filed for divorce in 2018, De Niro had been "unfairly decreasing" the agreed-upon payments to his estranged wife.

Quite sad.

DarlingWithoutYou · 17/05/2021 11:57

I'd go for the Eniro out of those options, although it's not really bigger than the Kona I thought?

It just depends what you're going to prioritise. For me, it's range, for you it might be size.
