Kindle question

Hi,

I've been thinking about buying myself a kindle as I would love to start reading more.
My question is, do you need a monthly subscription with a kindle or do you just buy books as and when?

Thanks in advance :)

You can buy as though it’s a normal book. The subscription isn’t as good I’ve found

You can just buy books as and when. I have kindle unlimited which is 7.99 a month and there is loads of books included free but I'm not using it so need to cancel it but I did in lockdown when I was reading 4 or 5 books a month.

Ooh ok, so you don't NEED to pay for the monthly subscription in order to use it then. Brill, thank you both your help.

Just buy them as and when, I tried the subscription for the free trial but didnt carry on paying for it at the end.

Just buy books as and when. I’ve signed up to the Kindle daily deals email and there are a minimum of 3 books per day at a really good price (most are 99p).

I just buy as and when. As I like to read a lot, I have a private shopping list on Amazon which I add books to as I hear about them, and then check most days to see if they have been discounted - and a lot of them do. I also subscribe to KindofBook which sends you a daily email with free and discounted books

I kept the subscription as DD reads loads so in addition to the 3 or 4 books I read each month, she gets a few, all on the same subscription. I have also used it for a few educational things for my eldest.

The daily deals emails are great for bargains, and they also have "monthly deals," 1,000+ titles discounted for a month, which one can filter and browse by subject on the website. I've never tried KindofBook's alerts, but eReaderIQ is another site with similar features, a good set of filters, and notification emails for price drops on specific books and authors.
