Bathing in the shower?

ewelamb · 14/10/2007 20:24

I desperately need something to insert into a square shower cubicle in order to be able to fill it with water so that a toddler can bathe in it. Something that folds away, ideally.

Does anyone know if such a thing exists, and if so where I can get it??

Thanks in advance!

How deep is the tray ? Would one of those tube things for kitchen sinks work to give you a few inches depth ? Or a small paddling pool.

sarahlou1uk · 14/10/2007 20:30

I used a normal baby bath until ds was 3

mrsmerton · 14/10/2007 20:31

Washing up bowl, big one?

gingerninja · 14/10/2007 20:32

what about those flexy bucket / tub type things with handles you can get in all sorts of colours. I've seen them in B&Q for about £6. Great toy boxes too.

TinyGang · 14/10/2007 20:32

There's this Would it fit?

LilianGish · 14/10/2007 20:33

Can't you use one of those suction plugs (you can get them with funny rubber animals which float to the surface) available in places like Boots or Superdrug. You can also get something that looks like a piece of pipe which you put over the plug - it means the water can fill to a certain level and then goes down the hole (don't know where you get them from, but we have them in house I'm living in at the moment - someone had to tell me what they were for!) I used to bath dd in the shower as soon as she out-grew her baby bath. In fact we didn't bother to block the plug we just put her under the shower. My mum used to be horrified - I would close the door and dd would happily play with all her stick on rubber letters and dinosaurs. It's probably why she loves swimming underwater so much now!

Yeah, was considering a small paddling pool. Only trouble is that bathroom is tiny, and can't face having to blow it up everynight as part of the bathtime routine

It's in a house we're considering buying. It's the only downside really.

I tried ds in his baby bath again the other night, and he's definitely too big for it

here

JackieNo · 14/10/2007 20:37

Gingerninja's idea of the tubtrug is great. Don't know how stable it would be though.

gingerninja · 14/10/2007 20:37

should have said, a friend uses one of these and gets on well with it. Her DD is 18 months

ewelamb · 14/10/2007 20:37

Sorry, didn't see the message from Liliangish. Haven't done this before

Was wondering if it would be OK to just pop him in there - it's interesting that that worked for you!

Thanks.

Lots of tubs here.

LilianGish · 14/10/2007 20:38

Our bathroom in Paris wasn't much bigger than the shower cubicle! At the time I used to dream about luxury bathrooms - now I have one and I think back longingly to those days when all splashing was confined behind the shower door. Ds might really love it.

BadHousekeeping · 14/10/2007 20:54

Can you not put your dc under the shower on a bath mat? We only had a shower when our dd was born and when she could sit up she use to come in the shower with me and sit on a bath mat. She loved it. I sat her so the jet went on the back of her head rather than face. Sometimes I blocked the plug hole so she could splash around a bit. Mind you it was a massive shower.

Surfermum · 14/10/2007 20:57

Dd's another who has happily gone in the shower with me since she could sit - and another who loves swimming underwater too!!

LIZS · 14/10/2007 21:01

I'd have reservations about buying a house with a main bathroom without room for a bath at all.

gingerninja · 14/10/2007 21:05

I don't agree, nothing wrong with not having a bath. I lived in a house for years without a bath and never missed it. My DD enjoys her shower with daddy even though we have a bath in this house.

Surfermum · 14/10/2007 21:11

I can't remember the last time I had a bath, or dh. We always shower. Dd likes having a bath but is equally happy in the shower. I think we'd happily live in a house without a bath.

OMGhelp · 14/10/2007 21:23

There is nothing wrong with showering a little one, as noted previously just make sure the spray doesn't go in their eyes. I have a bath-a-holic son, he would stay in it for hours if I let him, and he constantly tops the water up with hot, it costs me a bomb.

ewelamb · 14/10/2007 21:30

You guys are great. I've never done this before and was a bit nervous, but I'm really glad I posted the message!

Thanks for all the advice!!

Both mine love having showers in the cubicle. They love playing with the spray and I have to say they both love swimming!! Don't know if there is a connection.

BadHousekeeping · 15/10/2007 23:49

I just saw this product by chance and thought about you! It is pricey (about £100) and you may just pop your lo under the shower but here is the link
