Right we already have a ds who will be three in a couple of weeks we have decided to go down the buggy board route rather than the double buggy.

However we do need a new single buggy as dd's was worn out - we also need a new newborn car seat as we gave this away to my sil - so we've come up these three options.

mamas and papas freestyler

mamas and papas pliko

jane 360

urban detour mothercare

so has anyone had any personally experiences of these with a buugybaord

any views / opions apreciated

i have the freestyler and am considering attaching a buggy board to it.....
great as a buggy but i am not sure whether it wll be great with a buggy board as ds is a heavy toddler and it is meant to take 15kg or below (the buggy that is) and ds is already over 15kg

also it only has one big handle rather than umbrella handles which cant be too easy with a toddler poking his head through....

My dd1 was 3.5 when dd2 was born. She too had worn out her buggy and there was no way I was going to buy a double!

I tested out loads by going into John lewis with my dd1 and walking around with a buggy board attached to the various buggies. We ended up going for a Maclaren Techno classic. Importantly the buggy had a fairly upright frame (although baby could still lie flat) which meant that dd1 could stand straight & right up against the buggy. The second important factor was that the handles extended (I'm NOT tall) but this meant I could stand a reasonable distance away from the buggy. Both these factors meant that dd1 could stand comfortably and I could walk along happily without bashing my ankles on the board itself. The cheaper Techno XT is the same style.

Hope I've been clear enough.

oh right - so maybe the pliko would be better for that reason

i agree that the freestyler is heavy - but it is also quite robust i found

i would get a three wheeler though if i had my time again...

if you do go for a mamas and papas, there is a shop online that does them cheaper than normal
havent compared them to kiddicare though - who are normally really cheap

popsy and snowman - if I was doing it all again, and was going for the buggy board option, then for my second baby I would buy the cheapest maclaren that was suitable from birth - on the grounds taht you'll need one anyway (ours is still the buggy that gets the most use, and I would have used it more if ds2 could have gone in it earlier)

HI all
is the buggy board compatible to maclaren quest ?

At the risk of imposing on your thread, if you do go for an urban detour as per your original list, I've just posted one for sale!! No idea about it with a buggy board though, sorry.

Ixel · 25/10/2004 17:20

... and, I personally dont like any mamas and papas, as I find them so fiddly to fold up! But I love Jane. So, thats so you dont think I'm trying to bias you in favour of a Detour!
Have you thought of one of those buggy boards that have the little seat on too; little legs will get tired! I think they're only about 10.00 more than a normal one.

nappybrain · 25/10/2004 17:49

Guddy - yes it is - we have got one on a quest - however see other thread about buggy handle extensions as it is quite hard work to push (although I don't think back and shoulder ache is unique to the Quest unfortunately..)

guddy · 26/10/2004 15:27

thanks nappybrain

i was worried if the quest could bear the weight of the buggy board and its occupant!!
just ordered one though.
Seems like urs is a different issue but significant with quest.
i am currently using the buggy board with my graco citisport and i cant fold the buggy board coz the basket in the way and yes.....now i know why my shoulders hurt!!!!!!!!!!!
