Anyone else spend about £500 for a pram and really not regret it?

I keep seeing people get a hard time for spending lots of money on a pram.

We got most stuff 2nd hand for ds, but bought (with help of faily) a M&S 3 in 1 pram with carrycot (which I adore), pushchair(which both my wee ones have loved sitting right up in and and it also lies totally flat) and the car seat can clip on easily too.

4.5 years later I still absolutely love and and apart from a break of about 6 months it's been used most days. And if we have a 3rd we'll still use it so that could be over 7 years continuous use.

I think this is well worth the money I paid. Yes, I could have bought one 2nd hand at the time, but I very much enjoyed picking my fabric etc.

ANyone else spent a lot on money on ONE pram and not regretted it AT ALL?

Bought the Bugaboo Frog for DS1 and love(d) it. Used it for about 3 years continuously.

Am getting new parts and recycling it for DS2.

I consider it money well spent when I think about my happiness with it, and the amount of use i have gotten (and will get) from it.

I'd like to say I don't have a problem with people buying an expensive pram if they can afford it and if they actually use the thing for a reasonable amount of time. Personally I don't have the money to spend £500 on a pram and, even if I did, I prefer to get a cheaper one and save the money for other things but I understand that's my preference.

Tbh I think a lot of people get into debt because they buy things that are overpriced or unnecessary. I don't have a problem if people have plenty of money but there are people who buy expensive stuff then have no money. In those cases I feel v that they didn't think about their situation more carefully.

It's not just prams either, people go on holidays they can't afford, take out mortgages they struggle to pay if there's an interest rate rise...it annoys me that many people have a "buy now, think later" attitude.

We had one which was similar to themildmanneredaxemurderer 's original. My parents bought it although don't think it was more than £350 (10 years ago) . Did both ds and dd , ds also slept in the carrycot during the day. Felt we got value for money from it as it got at least 3 years regular use. Looks as good as new still but did also have a Maclaren andna 3 wheeler.

We had a Powertrack 360 with Matrix that my mum bought for us. I loved it and my only regret was selling it.
However if we have number 2 I'll def buy another.

nappynuttynormabutty, you speak so much sense.

Lulumama · 13/10/2007 20:32

it depends what you consider a lot of money...

for some people more than £100 is a lot, whereas to others £450 is a reasonable budget.

i agree with norma's point though.

horsemadgal - I loved my powertrack and matrix and my only regret is not being able to use it for no.2 as it turned out to be twins!!!!!

PigeonPie · 13/10/2007 20:40

Well, I didn't spend it - my generous Ma did - but I don't regret getting my Stokke Xplory one jot.

I have used it virtually every day since DS was born nearly 2 years ago and will be getting the carry cot bit out again shortly for DC2. I'm now 'training' DS to walk by the side of it, but I couldn't walk without it. It's been fab and I don't want anything else.

3madboys · 13/10/2007 21:01

bought a bugaboo frog with ds3, i had a variety of pushchairs with the first two, so made sure that i looked around and got a good one for ds3, its been fab he will be three in december and i have used it everyday, it still looks good as new and i will be using it for baby no 4, which is due next feb

horsemadgal · 13/10/2007 21:16

awwww oooggs, could get another and put one in each!
Twins makes up for not being able to use it though!!

We bought a jane powertwin when ds2 came along and it was fantastic. It was about £450 and really easy to push with two in. People would come up to me and ask me what it was like because they were thinking of getting one.
I also bought a cosatto duet lite for £150 which was a bit rubbish. You get what you pay for.

oooggs · 13/10/2007 21:26

horsemadgal - oh yes they are worth it

MrsSeanSlater · 13/10/2007 21:30

I bought a cheap one for DS1 and regretted it when I saw the lovely models other people had.

BrassicMonkey · 13/10/2007 21:35

I spent about £500 on mine too and although I don't regret it and I certainly enjoyed all the gadgets and the choosing of fabrics and accessories, it did turn out to be a waste of money and I wouldn't do it again.

I don't really understand why people are so outraged by how much people choose to spend on a pram anyway. I don't start jumping up and down about people spending thousands on holidays or cars, so why should anyone else care what I spent on a pram?

Lazarou · 13/10/2007 21:41

I must admit when I see someone pushing a really nice pram it makes me want to have another baby. I also like going into mamas and papas because everything looks so attractively displayed in the showroom.

mazzystar · 13/10/2007 21:43

me!
i've got a bugaboo frog that we bought when we had ds and a phil and ted's double that we have now we also have dd. i use one or the other every single day for the past three years - i walk or get public transport everywhere so its been a good investment.
have to say i look down my nose somewhat at people who choose to spend silly money on cars, can't help it.

mazzystar · 13/10/2007 21:44

Gosh, must apologise for the lack of proper grammar nd appalling sentence construction in that last post. No excuse for it.
