Washer Dryers

My washing machine has been playing up all week, and now I have to wait another few days for Samsung to come out and look at it. It's such a nightmare when it packs up, I've decided to replace the washing machine and dryer with two washer dryers. Any recommendations?

Why not a washing machine and tumble dryer?

Ifailed · 04/10/2020 12:28

I don't like washer/dryers for the simple reason that there are twice as many things that can wrong with them rendering the appliance useless.

showmethegin · 04/10/2020 12:29

I really wouldn't recommend. You'll end up with two machines that do neither job well

AlwaysLatte · 04/10/2020 12:36

@knittedfairies I have both at the moment but the washing machine is playing up. Last time this happened I was two weeks without one while we waited for a part to arrive and it's a nightmare with school uniform, etc. I'd ideally like two washing machines and a dryer but there isn't space in my tiny laundry room.

@Ifailed it's a good point, I hadn't thought of that.

@showmethegin I've not had one before but I was attracted to them when I used one in a rented apartment this summer - it seemed quite good, but then I suppose they were very small loads....

Love our Bosch washer dryer. As long as you don't overload it both works really well. I tend to use the washer dryer function for towels etc.

AlwaysLatte · 04/10/2020 14:19

@LunaLoveFood when you say not to overload it, is that so that you can dry the whole contents of the wash? I tend to tumble dry about a third of the washing load as I don't like putting jeans/school uniform/t shirts in. But I would want to be able to put a pillow or single duvet in to wash and dry.

That would be fine, I think it take 4kg on a dry cycle, so I usually dry all the towels or bedding etc. I don't tend to dry clothes except for pjs and underwear etc as I worry they will shrink. To be honest when I have overloaded it I just put it on for a second shorter dry and it's fine.
It does have a really handy 1 hour wash and dry time which is great if I've forgotten to wash football kit or something and need to wash and dry it really quickly.

LunaLoveFood · 04/10/2020 14:42

Sorry I got it wrong it's 8kg for just washing and 5kg for drying. Think it's 4kg for combined.

showmethegin · 05/10/2020 09:50

I'd get a washing machine and a heat pump dryer. We absolutely love ours. It's a beko and was about £350. They use barely any energy unlike normal dryers. They take a little longer to dry things because it's a lower temperature but that means you can put anything in and it doesn't shrink. The only thing I don't put in is expensive knitted jumpers, not brave enough yet!

@showmethegin ooh I've not come across those, I'll have a look. Thank you
