I'm flipping out a bit about getting a stage 2/3 carseat.. any advice?

dd was 3 in August and has recentely had a growth spurt, I suddenly noticed this week that her head is now just above her carseat (maxi cosi priori xp) - I have read that that means i now need the next car seat up.

I have looked on the Britax website and the only one they recomend for my car (nissan almera) is the Evolva 1-2-3. But having looked on the Which website - the evola 1-2-3 doesn't rate that well.

The ones that do rate well, britax evola 2-3 and maxi cosi rodi - how do I know if it fits my car?

I'm totally freaking out - I hate driving at the best of times and the thought of putting my special little girl in a car seat which isn't attached to anything and just uses the car seat belt is really upsetting.

Am I being irrational? Yes, ok I know I am! Can someone come on and tell me how it is more dangerous to be squeezing a big 3 year old into a stage 1 carseat than to be using a stage 2/3 one? aaarg.

i got a britax hiliner that is the same as the evolva 2-3 according to Britax. £19.99 from Argos aboyt 2 weeks ago

Do you have isofix? Its far safer and will make you feel better about the move up.

NAB3 · 11/10/2007 12:39

The maxi cosi rodi should fit every car as it just sits on the car seat and you use the seat belt to strap the child on. We have 2 for our eldest 2 children and are about to get 2 more for my husband's car. Highly recommend them. HTH.

does your local council have a road safety department? Ours offers a fantastic service whereby you go to their site and they have just about every car seat made and they will give you great impartial advice about the safest seat for your car, how to fit it etc.

Most of the ones which use an adult belt only fit most cars. However we have the Evolva 123 and it is fine once fitted. Came out at about a 60 which wasn't awful. Still using with the harness for dd (6) and it is a much better height for her. Is your dd 15kgs + as until erh ears/eyes are ver hte headrest of her present seat she is safer in that if not. Alternative is an isofix version of a Stage 2/3 like the Evolva 23 isofix but Which? didn't rate them any higher than their non-isofix counterparts.

Jekyllywoo · 11/10/2007 16:50

My car doesn't have isofix in it unfortunately. Dd weighs 17kg and her head is about 4cm over the top - haven't checked the ear thing but will next time she's in the car!

My mum has just bought a Britax hiliner for her car and dd went in it today - she looked much more comfortable I have to say. I think I may have to bite the bullet and go for it.

The Evolva 1-2-3 - I was under the impression that the harness bit was only for littlies then it changes to be used with adult seatbelt. I'll have another look at it all.

Thanks for your help.

That is true but the cut off to change over is 18kg, as per most Stage 1 seats , but as the seat itself is wider (and in the Ultra model adjustable) and lower it accommodates a larger child more comfortably.

Get the Rodi. It is great. I know what you mean about just using the seat belt. I hated it to begin with. DD1 seemed so exposed, so yes irrational to worry but totally normal in my experience.

Jekyllywoo · 11/10/2007 17:26

Boot.com have 20% off carseats at the moment so I could get the Maxi cosi rodi in Happy Flower (garish pink same as dd's current one) for £75.99 with free delivery and with the promotional code XMAS71 you get 750 advantage points too. (not that I'm swayed by things like pretty flowers and advantage card points.. no, no, no).

NAB3 · 11/10/2007 17:50

Halfords is cheaper than Boots.

Jekyllywoo · 11/10/2007 19:17

Halfords are coming up at £79.99 for the maxi cosi rodi xp in Happy Flowers (and no points!)

NAB3 · 12/10/2007 13:16

It is £49.99 at the moment for the rodi in my Halfords.

Jekyllywoo · 12/10/2007 13:33

There's the Rodi, Rodi XP and Rodi XR it looks like and the Rodi is £49.99 in Halfords but the XR is £94.99 compared to £75.99 in Boots. Thanks for looking though, it 's always good to get a bargain!

NAB3 · 12/10/2007 13:58

We have the XP and it is £49.99

Skyler · 12/10/2007 14:36

You must have got an in store bargain then NAB. See here

IWantToBePositive · 12/10/2007 14:51

Yes, £49.99

IWantToBePositive · 12/10/2007 16:05

It isn't the XP that we have but the Rodi is £49.99.

Skyler · 12/10/2007 16:08

My point was the Rodi is £49.99 and the Rodi XP is more, as Jenkywoo said £79.99. Does this make sense now?

Skyler · 12/10/2007 16:08

NAB says she has the XP.

IWantToBePositive · 12/10/2007 16:17

Sorry, thought we had the XP.

The XP is £79.

We have the Rodi which is £49.

Oops.

Skyler · 12/10/2007 16:22

Aha. Glad we are sorted. Are you NAB too??

IWantToBePositive · 12/10/2007 16:24

yep

Skyler · 12/10/2007 16:50

I see .
