Finally worked out what type of car I want, Ford Tourneo - can anyone tell me what it's like?

I want the petrol automatic one (I cant find one - but that will be another thread.....)

It looks very big, is it awful to park?
It's it very expensive to run? & how about insurance?

Hiya. Do you mean the connect or the enormous transit sized one? I have the latter!!

CurseryKinkajoo · 09/09/2020 13:16

We have a LWB 9 seater - diesel though. I love it, easier to park than our old car it replaced because it has parking cameras/sensors.

CurseryKinkajoo · 09/09/2020 13:17

Also cheaper RFT than our old car, better MPG as 10+years newer and no noticeable change in insurance.

KatyMac · 09/09/2020 13:26

this one or one like it

Sounds good @CurseryKinkajoo

Ah that’s the connect! I have the huge monster!! Grin

Wellthatsit · 09/09/2020 13:42

We have the connect. It is a diesel (couldn't get a petrol one easily) and it's great. Not difficult to park as it has sensors, and it's not that huge. It is nice to drive, feels very safe and has good flexible seating (you can fully remove a single back seat or a dou le back seat, or ll back seats) . I would recommend it! Good all round visibility too.

CurseryKinkajoo · 09/09/2020 14:42

@Wolfiefan us too Grin

Wolfiefan · 09/09/2020 14:44

@CurseryKinkajoo I love it. Easy to drive, great visibility and fits the wolfhounds in! Grin

OK now I just need to find one

I bloody hate buying cars- I always feel so clueless

Ford Tourneo , like a Transit ?. I drive an old Land Rover County , doesn’t go very fast but great in bad weather and people get out of your way. It gets washed twice a year , whether it needs it or not.

Wolfiefan · 09/09/2020 15:32

@KatyMac it’s not the cheap option but we went to a Ford dealership. They have a database of any at any dealership nationwide and can move them to you!
Not a cheap option but warranty and soo much easier than scouring ads online.

KatyMac · 09/09/2020 17:32

yes but they haven't got any!

Katy the petrol engines are out of production so you'd have to go used. We are thinking of buying one too. Diesel only if new. Our dealer said they will start production again in Jan so you can order ahead for a new one, but otherwise it's what they've got in stock now.

NoodieRoodie · 09/09/2020 17:59

We've got the LWB 7 seater and love it! We've had it 3 years and it was a year old when we bought it with under 2000 miles on the clock (ex notability). Ours is a manual diesel 1.5 engine.

It felt huge when we first got it but it's a dream to drive. I soon discovered that the easiest way to park is to reverse into any space, it has sensors so it's a piece of cake.

KatyMac · 09/09/2020 18:25

Thanks @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff it would be used anyway

Also looking at the Skoda Yeti but not sure it's big enough

OP posts:
JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 09/09/2020 20:32

Yeah we decided against Skoda. Also looked at VW Touran and Proace Verso (Toyota).

KatyMac - I have followed and/or commented on various threads of yours over the last few months as I think we're both in the same place for needing a new car, and roughly in the same ballpark on our requirements.

I know two people (alas, neither in the UK, but in Southern Europe) who have the Tourneo Connect.

One has the five seat 1.0 manual petrol model which he bought to replace a mk I Citroën Berlingo, itself bought on the basis of my experience and recommendation. He is very happy with it and its running costs - although to qualify this he runs it as a second vehicle alongside a Porsche Boxster. He had thought the engine would be a bit weedy in such a large vehicle, but unless fully loaded it is fine (albeit in a country where driving is nowhere near as aggressive as the UK).

The other has a seven seat manual diesel model which he runs as a taxi. He loves it, much more so than the Mercedes Benz C-class estate it replaced: lower out of pocket running expenses, and more room for passengers and luggage (it's a holiday area and he does a lot of airport runs). He can get full size adults in the two rear-most seats and there is still some luggage space behind them, which is not something you could say about the Zafiras of this world.

You haven't said whether you need seven or five seats, but as I understand it the long wheelbase (LWB) seven seat Grand model was never available with the petrol engine, only the diesel, which may explain why you are struggling to find one.

The dealbreaker for me is that I need an automatic and the Ford PowerShift dry-clutch automatic transmission has an absolutely terrible reputation for reliability. It has been the subject of several class action law suits around the world. I was only ever interested in a diesel, but I also have read that the 1.0 petrol engine has had reliability issues relating to coolant leaks, with Ford eventually having to replace over 1,000 engines in these vehicles after the warranty had expired. Check the Honest John vans website for more details.

Having ruled out the Ford Tourneo Connect, I have found the nearest (and, probably better) equivalent is the Citroën Berlingo/Peugeot Rifter/Vauxhall Combo Life model but for the time being these are only available with diesel engines if you want an automatic from the current model. If you see a used petrol 'automatic' Berlingo or Peugeot Partner it is the old model and uses an automated manual transmission which is best avoided unless you want to impersonate a nodding donkey when you drive anywhere.

KatyMac · 10/09/2020 06:52

Yes I'm starting to wonder if the difference between what I want and what exists is too great

I need 4 seats, so a 5 seater is all there is
I dont feel I can go and sell exo/sustainable clothes in a diesel - even leavibg aside the 2 members of my family with lung issues

I want petrol/electric, low emissions low insurance group
I need automatic, huge (high) boot and 4+ seats

I'd like a green or a purple one (hollow laugh)

Radio 2 & 4, electric windows and decent heating/air-conditioning would be fab and heated seats would make me cry with joy!

But i just don't think I can have one!

The main difference I noted with the tourneo, Co pared to Berlin go, ka goo etc is that it feels more like a car inside (as opposed to a van). The seats are more comfortable, the dashboard is fancier etc.
But it is a nightmare to find one second hand. I think there were about three in the whole country when we bought ours.
I would definitely use a dealer to help find one, if you can put up with their patter.

KatyMac · 10/09/2020 19:36

If only I could find one

OP posts:
KatyMac · 25/09/2020 23:59

I bought one and I love it!
It seems to fit everything I need i it (ill know for sure on Sunday) and it has heated seats
