Advice on baby monitors please

We need to buy a second monitor now we have a second child. I know that seems odd - we already have an analogue Tomy monitor which we had for dd, who is now 2 1/2 and would have used this for baby. However, we've moved to new bigger house and now can't hear dd when she cries in the night and wakes up in the morning from our bedroom (opposite sides of the house), so have started using the monitor for her again.

This means that we don't have a monitor for the baby's room.

I don't suppose we can get away with 2 analogue monitors as they will interfere with each other.

Can people recommend which are good digital monitors, as they are very expensive, so we want to be sure we're getting a good one.

Alternatively does anyone know of any other solution to this?

My worry with using the other channel is that I think there are other babies in our street and therefore maybe other monitors, even though we haven't had problems with this so far (and think next door neighbour may be pregnant)

pixiefish · 16/10/2004 22:37

i've got the tomy digital one - £50 with a light and temp thing blus it's portable- much cheaper without light and temp- got one for my mum's for £17- a tomy again-
i can't sing their praises enough- i did have a problem with mine being faulty when i first got it but tomy swapped it straight away. dd 8 months now and have had no problems since

pixiefish · 16/10/2004 22:37

posts crossed evesmama- same monitor

EvesMama · 16/10/2004 22:40

mine has light on too pixiefish, so must have been really special offer! dd is very vocal now so we just use ours when we are down and she is upstairs, but for 15 months had it turned right up...stapled too my ear...a tad overreacting?!

That sounds good - not so expensive as most digital monitors. I'll check ToysRUs - thanks.

We also use 2 monitors one for each child, and find 2 Tomys work fine. The first one is the more expensive digital one - think i paid about £50 for it - and the other one was £30. We have them on different channels and they work fine!

Previously had an Angelcare, chucked it out it was so rubbish.

also have tomy premier dig and like it a lot

Don't go for the blue Mothercare one - it beeps regularly (every 12 seconds or something?) to "update itself". Like I want something beeping next to my bed all night - even the baby didn't wake me that often.

Hi Distracted, we have just bought the philips didgital one for £58 off ebay, I think it is £120 in shops and we went for it as it is two way (can be used as intercom - good for older kids)- it is really excellent if you are prepared to spend that sort of money, there seem to be a good choice on ebay

Hope you find a good one

I've had the Philips digital for over a year and am very pleased with it.

The parent unit is very small and rechargeable and the baby unit can run off batteries as well as mains.

No noises/interference and it's very sensitive. It has a volume switch, like most monitors, but also has a sensitivity switch.

It's £78.99 in BabiesRUs but I'm sure it was only about £60 in Costco.
