I don't have one at present, we are getting a new kitchen and I am stealing some of the budget to buy one.

I don't mind paying a bit more if there is a really good one, but I have no idea which one/s I should be looking at.
I do already have a hand-held mixer thing.

Any advice much appreciated!

i have a magimix one which is good thogugh don't use it as often as i should. it has every attachment and more. it is nearly 5 years old, but did cost £180

mylastrolo · 02/10/2007 18:38

To be honest the only attachment i use is the chopping blades. whipping ones i broke for meringues. infact i processed leftover roast beef tonight thinking it would be yuk but actually delicious in shepherd's pie.

I have a kenwood and have used it ONCE. I have a hand blender which gets used all the time.

I got my mum a phillips cusiney something for xmas last year. She loves it, has everything even a juicer.
We have a magimix which is brill but lots more money and you have to buy most of the attachments. We bought the juicer for it and it is excellent as is everything you can get for it.

Depends a bit on how much you use it and what for.

toomanyballs · 02/10/2007 18:53

Forgot to add that we looked on which and the phillips was so close to the magimix in points there was no point paying the extra £100 plus extras. I point out that we have had our magimix about 6 years.

I have a Kenwood chef which is great. My Mum is always on about her lost KitchenAid though.

fuzzywuzzy · 02/10/2007 18:55

I'm getting a Kenwood Multipro libra after my old one died, but I do tend to use it loads and use all the attachments.

flowerybeanbag · 02/10/2007 18:58

I do anticipate using it a fair bit, as I keep finding myself wishing I had one to chop/blend/mix etc, and managing without.

I got a magimix as a wedding present 6 yrs ago. Still going strong, although I think they are a bit expensive. I don't use it all the time, but it comes in handy.

NannyL · 02/10/2007 19:39

my mum my grandmother and my 'old old job' have a kenwood chef... whish are used every week at least... and when there i used it loads too.

My 'old job' and my 'current job' both have magimix and i use that at leats once a week as well

only ever had have the basic cutting attachment for the magimix, but i use that EVERY time i make bolognes, or need to finely chop veg, or for making sponge cakes.

Use the whisk with the kenwood for cakes / meringe / whipping cream etc, the dough hook for bread (but not so much since breadmakes have been invented) and the liquidiser for soups and smoothies.

At my old old job we have the potatoe peeler as well which we used loads (but they had a farm house and were regularly feeding 14+ people) and ONE time ever we used the sausage machine to amke sausages.

Oh and the mincer attachment was used regularly on the kenwood as well!....

thank you everyone for your v helpful suggestions and comments.

I was kind of hoping that everyone might say the same one and make my decision easy , but that's definitely narrowed it down.
