I've been fancying one of these for ages - there's a Tefal one I like - having just done a pile of ironing I thought, I know who to ask about this - so come on then are they any good?

ahhhh ... used to date a marketing manager at Tefal (way back when) .. he had one like that and reckoned they were the best

never owned one myself though

Amfs · 15/10/2004 18:52

JoolsToo · 15/10/2004 18:57

JoolsToo. I am glad you posted this because I actually really like ironing and have been wondering about one of these too. God-do you think it's time we got a life?? My friend is coming up tomorrow and she has a proper steam irn thing. I'll pick her brains. (but she also has a maid come to think of it...)

JoolsToo · 15/10/2004 19:14

Spook - great! keep me informed - I mean they ARE expensive but if they're as good as they claim - might be worth it!

(We could get more of 'a life' if we got shut of the ironing quicker )

JoolsToo. I bought a new ironing board today. Small pleasures......

CountessDracula · 15/10/2004 19:34

NONONO if they are what I think you mean, had one in a rented house they take bloody hours to heat up and you keep having to stop to let the steam buikd up again

May have just been old and shit one. You cna't just turn the bloody thing on and quickly iron a shirt, you have to wait hours

Redwood · 15/10/2004 19:45

JoolsToo, I have one and it's great. I would say it takes a third off the time the ironing takes. You can do Tshirts on one side only and they look perfect. Highly recommend one, mine is Tefal and I've had it two years.

CountessDracula · 15/10/2004 20:08

Ah this must have jst been a really old and naff one then

JoolsToo · 15/10/2004 20:24

Thanks Redwood - its Tefal I was looking at it - it claims you can start ironing in 2 minutes!

Countess, you must have had a one-off as I've got a morphy richards one and it is brilliant! Strongly recommended!

ernest · 16/10/2004 16:03

I used to have one and didn't like it - 2 minutes is quite a time really to hang aroung, although I think mine was even a bit longer. SO waiting for it to come up to pressure, and strangely, even though you're not holding the weight of the water ifswim, it felt very heavy to hold, you couldn't put it down anywhere, but had to return to the base plate, whicvh was inconvenient, and it was definitely dodgy to refill with water, even tho' it says you can - lots of high pressure spit of boiling water. finally, didn't think the results were that much better. definitely no good if you like to just pop the iron on to quickly iron 1 item, or conversly for a long session either. very glad to return to 'normal' steam iron
