Anyone got the new Samsonite pop-up travel cot?
lulupop · 15/10/2004 07:33
Thinking of buying this as our existing travel cot is too big, both for DD, who is a bit lost in it at only 5 months, and also for the bedroom it has to go in at my parents' house.
The Samsonite thingy looks good as is obviously lightweight and easy to transport, but I was wondering how long we'd be able to use it for. It says to 18mos but looks as though the infant wld be able to get up and crawl/walk off out of it once they were mobile. Anyone got one? Is this the case?

I found it so hard to get back into its carrier that it broke (not blaming dh or anything...)
But anyway as YG says 18 months prob. a bit big... it's so lightweight.

I think lulupop is looking at the bigger one than we've got spots (the bubble one) - but it's still bloody difficult to put back. The mattress is really quite thin (we used a pillow instead)

I'm also thinking of buying the Samsonite cot I think its quite new and bigger than the one for newborns, sounds like the one lulupop has looked at. Love to know if any one has taken it on holiday... I have also seen an inflatable on called a Holidoze I think any opinions on this one also.

Mine's the original one though, think lulupop wants the bigger one. I used mine for overnight stays etc until ds2 was 8 months. Found it very handy.

Hi Alfiebetrry, further to my starting this thread, I did buy one of the new bubble cot thingies (6-18months) and my findings are good. It is very lightweight and easy to put up. The mattress bit is a bit thin (like all travel cots) but I also took DDs sheepskin wth us so she was perfectly happy. DS (nearly 3) was very taken with the "tent", and wanted to sleep in it as well. I have to say, although they say up to 18 months, DS is a very tall 3 yr old and he cld probably have slept in it himself.
There are 2 minor negative points:
- Because of the bubble roof, the "entrance" to the cot is at the side. This can make it a little awkward to put baby in, as you are bending down to floor level and trying to slip them sideways at the same time.
- Folding the cot up again and packing it into the bag is a bit of a tricky job and requires 2 sets of hands. But we managed OK.
Overall I think it's a great invention and wld recommend it.

Thanks lulupop. Have ordered it and will be careful to keep DS (28 months) out of it!
