Sling for long baby?

My DS is long - born 55cm, with tall dad so likely to be tall, and currently around 11lb+ at 5 weeks. When out I've been carrying him in a wrap (Tricot Slen) but am considering getting a sling as well because can't just pop him in and out of the wrap (acres of material!). I'm hoping sling might be useful indoors to settle him when crying due to wind etc. However am wondering whether his length is likely to be a problem - a seller on eBay is getting rid of her sling because her baby was long and she felt her baby didn't 'look' right in sling (presume anxious about her breathing). Anyone have thoughts/experience of long babies in slings? And any recommendations re makes that might be suitable for long baby?

Thanks!

55 cm is normal range - and the slings / carriers can carry babies from newborn til about 3 / 4 months so can accomodate many different sizes. Tomy carrier worked for me.

Thanks Pigletmaker - I thought DS was long because he seems so much bigger that some other older babies that I've seen! Am thinking of sling rather than carrier, as if DS falls asleep I want to put him down without waking him up if possible... Will consider purchasing the sling being sold by person with long baby in that case.

hi
i use a baby bjorn and it works for me. my LO was born small, at 5lb 9oz, but has now grown taller than her birth buddies. The baby bjorn works for her and me. I have a freedom ring sling for sale if you want it. Its in unbleached colour. I bought it for LO and she loved it when she was small, but hates anything restricting her now she is 5 months.

I bought it for £30.00 - will sell it for £15 +p+P if you are bf, you can use it for that. its a lovely sling, just a shame my lo doesnt like it.

I now use BB and Ellaroo

If you do a kangaroo wrap you should be able to take baby in and out, maybe worth a try before buying more stuff? just a thought.

how about this?

Hi Pinkyminky and Sassib - once I've got my wrap on, it's easy enough to get DS in and out. It's getting my wrap on that's a faff, I have a particularly long wrap! Am considering chopping the ends off to make wrapping it up easier, I have at least 2ft spare when done up... Also DS tends to wake up when taken out, I think due to change in temp - he gets v warm in this wrap. I like the look of Patapum, never come across these before, but it says suitable from 5 months so will leave for mo and continue considering slings...

Freedom sling looks good, but think natural colour likely to be disaster for me, I have so many spillage and washing accidents!

IKWYM about the wrap being long- but you will use it up when the baby gets bigger! They do get a bit warm though.
How about this one

Pinkyminky - I'm actually considering the Calin Bleu one already! May get one come spring...
