DS will be 26mths when DC is born in a few weeks. Am thinking of splashing out 400(!!!!) smackers on a P&T. They seem to keep thier value on Ebay so I should get some money back ina few years (!) - but just want to be told we're doing the right thing really cos it's a helluva lot a dosh!

Hi,
To me they don't seem great although I don't have experience of one have just seen them about. I think it's horrific fot the child underneath, they are so vunerable being that close to the ground from exhaust smoke, dirt etc. Personally I would opt for something where the children are side by side even if it is a bit more cumbersome. Good luckx

moondog · 30/09/2007 19:21

I've had one and it was terrific.
Baby in the bottom slept like a dream and not remotely vulnerable.
The thing is closed on all sides and rocks gently which sends them to sleep.I'm not one for spending excessively on kiddy paraphernailia but is was a Godsend.

CarGirl · 30/09/2007 19:22

you shouldn't need a double for long I would get something 2nd hand (for those days when it rains and you need them both undercover) and get your ds in trainging to walk and use a buggy board.

funnypeculiar · 30/09/2007 19:27

We umed & ahed for about 4 mths, and eventually bought one second hand off ebay. Loved it - the best buggy in the world - I know lots of ownders, and no-one so far has been disapointed.

When the baby is under 6 mths, the back bit if totally exposed. I did have problems with dd trying to play with the wheels when she was about a year, but other than that haven't had any problems with the second seat being so low.

Plus points: you can get anywhere a double can (into any shop, down any aisle
Great off road
Flexible seat arrangement
very nippy

Only negative imo is the size of the shopping basket - esp when in doubles mode.

I love mine so much I can't bear to get rid of it even through we only use it as a double once in a blue moon now

bagpuss · 30/09/2007 19:29

We have one too and I would agree with moondog. They are really a great piece of kit and last well - ours is nearly 4 years old and looks like new still. I couldn't have done without it for the nursery runs in the winter after ds2 was born (I had 2.10 gap). It also works really well if you like to go on country walks, which we did fairly frequently.

CarGirl · 30/09/2007 19:31

Do agree I've had the original P&T Kiwi explorer and loved it, now I use the doubles seat for carting everything around on days out and the like - it's ace, and they are very well made structurally

amazonianwoman · 30/09/2007 19:34

They're fab , esp as you sometimes might only need to use it as a single.

The baby is kind of swayed to sleep when in newborn mode, and is very cosy. DD loved sitting high up on the toddler seat.

DS loved sitting in the back seat when he was old enough (and it reclines on the new Sport version so he was v comfy - I added the headhugger from his carseat - slept comfortably). Fumes rise so they're no more at risk there than they are sitting in a "normal" buggy. They can still see plenty too.

Great on beach/offroad and in shops, much easier to manoeuvre than eg Maclaren Twin etc.

I'm selling mine now (only 6mths old and immaculate, black, with doubles seat) cos DD is 3.3 and prefers a buggyboard like all of her mates, and I have a Mt Buggy that I adore. Would you be interested??!! (Someone else has expressed an interest on Mumsnet)

shoobaloo · 30/09/2007 19:41

Can you use a buggy board with them?

OP posts:
CarGirl · 30/09/2007 19:42

I don't think so, but you don't need to you just let the elder one hop in and out of the rear seat as they need/want to!

shoobaloo · 30/09/2007 19:47

Hmm, really? I thought they could take a buggy board. Also, would it fit in the ford focus boot? We currently have a Maclaren Techno that fits ok.

funnypeculiar · 30/09/2007 19:50

We have a golf (about the same size, I would have thought? )And it fits fine in that

amazonianwoman · 30/09/2007 22:58

Not ideal with a buggy board according to the lascal site

Bubbaloo · 30/09/2007 23:25

Shoobaloo-I absolutely love mine and have a 22 month gap between the ds's.It should also fit in your car without any problems as I have an old style Fiesta and one of the reasons I opted for our P&T was because it was about the only double buggy that would fit my car boot(with the parcel shelf out).
I got mine from an Ebay shop in the States and it was alot cheaper than £400 which was also a bonus.

Mummy2TandF · 30/09/2007 23:29

amazonianwoman - I would be interested if you are selling it please [cheeky emotion]

got mine from here whole lot including extra seat, storm cover and cocoon etc for about 350 last year
excellent buggy
i was worried that the bottom one couldn't see out but whilst they're in baby mode they sleep anyway and once sitting up it's just like being on the bottom deck of a bus
eldest, 3, prefers the bottom position as she can hop in and out and push brother in the back!

I absolutely love my phil&teds, and just for the record, re-colours mine is apple green and still looks lovely, I've given it a two minute wipe down with a damp cloth on occaison and it looks fab. I don't care if not many would have that colour, I like to be a bit different, everyone has black or red - BORING!!
I am now selling my bugaboo with buggy board as I have come to the conclusion that my DS walks until he needs to have a sit down, and the back seat on the p&t is more useful as a result.
My dd loved the hammock style newborn set-up with the cocoon, I could also just keep the wind&cold off her and put DS inn a teflon coated buggysnuggle and the hood up- so he wouldn't have to endure the dreaded raincover which all toddlers seem to loathe on all prams/buggies. The back seat was fine for dd later on- I'd zip her up in the sleeping bag- which is lovely and that would give her plenty of support and she'd just drop off to sleep. Now she's bigger, she usually goes in the front with ds taking the odd breather in the back.
My babies were just over 16 months apart, tho.

re-exhaust fumes- if you think being a foot higher is going to protect your child from exhaust fumes it think you may be sadly disappointed! Hot air rises......

amazonianwoman · 02/10/2007 08:47

Mummy2TandF - Loucee is undecided re P&T. Looking for £300 including postage for buggy, reclining doubles seat, double raincover (works fine in single mode too), bumper bar (unused), mudguards (unused) and one black pannier.

Let me know your thoughts

Mummy2TandF · 02/10/2007 10:00

Oh I would love it, I really would, Craig always sad that my double mountain jogger was too big! Although I was hoping to pay slightly less I don't know if you have read my threads but after everything that has happened I am just waiting for the banks to get sorted and send me my new cheque books etc I will let you know as soon as I have a method of payment for you. Thanks

amazonianwoman · 02/10/2007 12:31
