Hi everyone,

After 20 years of public transport I'm taking the plunge and considering driving again. Ideally I want to be able to take my 2 kids (2 & 4) and my elderly parents out for excursions... but I would love a smallish car... I love fiats, but is that feasible? Are there any smallish cars that have enough room in the back? Any recommendations gratefully received.

Not smallish but not massive...Peugeot 5008, it has 2 seats in the boot. Or Ford S Max. Otherwise a parent will be climbing in over a carseat.

It's the car seats that take up so much room, nothing comfortable about squeezing in between 2 car seats. You can get narrower ones, definitely something to consider if not getting a 7 seater.

Not really small, but not massive either, but I've got a vw Tiguan & can fit three big car seats in the back, so would be enough room for two & an adult.

Not small but Volvo XC90 has a third row you can put up when needed to give 7 seats (although really 6 as the space between 2 car seats on the 2nd row is not much!)

Toyota Verso. Absolutely fab and we bought it for same reason, you can fit two car seats and an adult in the back with ease.
