Any good digital cameras for a nearly four year old?

Can anybody recommend a good digital camera for a nearly four year old boy? Thinking about getting DS1 one for Christmas. Don't really just want to get a cheap camera, would prefer one designed for a child. Hoping it will stop him playing with my new camera

Any suggestions?

Fisher Price do one, with big chunky hand grips. Not many megapixels, but would do for a tiddler with fiddly fingers!

There's a Vtech one as well, gets decent reviews on Amazon, but takes 0.3 megapixel pictures! Fisher Price one is 1.3, and that gets reviews for poor picture quality.

I'd love to get DD a camera, but I refuse to buy either of these on the grounds that it's just exploitative to put such rubbish technology in pink/blue plastic case and charge the kind of money that'd get you a 5 megapixel camera of a proper make.

If you did go for the Fisher Price one though, make sure you get the newer version (1.6" screen, not 1.3"), Amazon seem to have their prices back to front at the moment, at least for boys - the newer version of the blue camera is £15 cheaper than the old one.

ds1 had my mum & dad's old one last christmas (he was 4y3m). It was just a normal adult finepix one and he loves it and can work it perfectly well. Is something like this an option for you?
TBH it seems a bit daft to pay the kind of money the kids ones are for the quality you get.

Gosh! I didn't realise they'd be that expensive, and such poor quality! What does it take to put a bit of rubber round a camera!

DCMB -thanks for the tip - still seems to be like that on Amazon.

Our old one isn't working brilliantly, hence getting a new one. Might have a look on Ebay for a second hand one. He can operate our one fine, so doesn't need the special kids controls, I just wanted it to outlast a few drops. Having said that, DH dropped ours a fair few times before it started to die slowly!

We saw this one in Comet recently and thought it might be a good camera for a young child. 5mp camera for £40. Big screen so they can see what they're taking and simple to operate.

Also it comes with a strap, although you can't see it on the picture so you can just teach your DS to loop it over his hand and hopefully cut down on accidents. HTH, we're getting one for our DS1 (4) for xmas.

Looks good We can also use the memory card from our old one to save buying a new one of those (new camera needed a diff type!)
