I suspect there are plenty of books. It's just a matter of finding the right one ... not much help there, am I?

But I was thinking, in addition to a really good book, how about a world map jigsaw? I remember doing one when I was about that age, and it really absorbed me, finding all the little pieces for all the countries ..

It stuck in my head much more, as I remember. Does he do/like jigsaws?

Try Bargain Books or Publishers Outlet or similar. Lots of Atlas/ Info books out there.

Dorling Kindersly always do great information books with really good clear pictures.

My kids have loads mostly from charity shop book sections including some very nice readers digest one, but they are aimed at adults or older children but look good.

that is such a good idea desi- he gets bored often at home - im sure he would love a world jigsaw.....off to find one!!

I'm jealous, emma. I'd love to be able to do a jigsaw, but it's something of an impossibility with a toddler, ain't it?

tiredemma · 29/09/2007 18:22

well, not impossible- challenging.

I'd check out DK first. They produce the clearest fact books for both children and adults imo.

We have an adult book called the World Desk Reference by DK which contains maps and two pages of info about every country in the world. The DDs have always been fascinated by the book and often 'test' me on things like the rainfall in Ghana and the population of Macedonia

How about this one on ebay?

Another recommendation for DK books.
Ds loved a flags of the world cardboard tray puzzle and now I cannot remember where we got it.
But trying a few websites I found this which looks fun!

We've got one Marina that we got from the big christmas catalogue that schools/clubs do - I'll remember the name as soon as I hit post - and it came with a matching world jigsaw. The dds still like playing with them.
