Any owners feedback would be good please, I'm looking at the below cars, all scored high in the safety test and I'm due to test drive all but just wanted to see if anyone had one, would/wouldn't recommend etc please

Audi Q2
Kia Sportage
Mercedes GLA
Volvo XC40

Thank you Smile

Haven’t had any of the above but have owned 2 Audi’s and they are absolutely brilliant to drive. Had no issues with either of ours. We had an A5 and a Q5.
I see lots of sportages around. They are a similar size to the Audi Q5 I would’ve said, maybe even Q3? Slightly larger than the others you’ve mentioned.

Doingitaloneandproud · 13/07/2020 11:45

Ahh thank you, that's good to know. I'm definitely leaning more towards the Audi, mainly because they have a great reputation from those I know who have them. I'll take them all for a drive and see which feels better
Thank you Thanks

I have a Sportage which admittedly wasn't picked for any reason other than I could afford it and it was big enough. I really like it though. I went from a small car to this with no bother.
If I had a bigger budget I may well have ended up with something else though.

Elai1978 · 13/07/2020 12:01

I wouldn’t bother with the Audi or the Merc, both piles of shite covered in nice soft touch plastic. Would probably take the Kia then the Volvo.

PolloDePrimavera · 13/07/2020 12:02

I have the Volvo and I really love it.

eurochick · 13/07/2020 12:13

I loved the xc40 on paper but really didn't like it when I sat in the showroom.

The GLA felt too small for us but we liked the GLC a lot.

We had a Kia as a courtesy car and it felt very unrefined compared to the European brands but has a good reputation and plenty of kit.

We ended up with a BMW. Nearly went for the X1, which was a really nice car, but in the end opted for the X3 for slightly more space.

This.

All day long. Although I wouldnt consider the Volvo either - overpriced tat from Swedenistan.

Thank you all for the replies, I've booked in some test drives for next week, although not sure how they work in this environment but hopefully I can just get a feel for the cars. I also have a list of questions to ask regarding things like warranty etc
It'll definitely need parking sensors, my cars not that big now so it would be a change to get used too!!
Thank you all BlushThanks

@Doingitaloneandproud uch you'll be fine. I went from a smart to a Sportage and have yet to cause injury. I have a reversing camera but no sensors. I was a bit anxious for a week or 2 but once I got used to it it's no bother.

Louise0701 · 13/07/2020 17:20

Sensors and cameras are a godsend! 😂
I had a test drive about 4 weeks ago, it was fine they just sat in the back.

Karcheer · 17/08/2020 18:55

I definitely wouldn't touch the Merc we've just got rid of one (not a GLA and the build quality was shocking).
I test drove the XC40 hybrid at the weekend and it was brilliant. Ive gone for a XC60 though as i wanted a bit more space.

gassylady · 17/08/2020 18:59

What about the skoda SUV a friend has the karoq and it’s great that’s whT I plan to get when I next change (but I do hang on to cars🤣🤣 There is a newer slightly smaller one in the range too

Rainyday26 · 17/08/2020 19:04

Tried the Q2 a couple of years ago and it was a lovely finish inside, but quite snug in the front and my husband who is 6’3” couldn’t sit upright in the back as the roof sloped quite dramatically.

Nissan Qashqai was nice but wallowy and the back doors were narrow at the bottom meaning it was difficult to get out of.

In the end I got a top spec Seat Ateca with loads of extras and its still great years later. Loads of room in the back.

LadyCatStark · 17/08/2020 19:08

Have a look at the Seat Ateca. We got a 2nd from top of the range (so sporty rather than executive) automatic for the price of a bottom of the range Q3.

LadyCatStark · 17/08/2020 19:09

Crossed post with @Rainyday26!

MissConductUS · 17/08/2020 19:11

I'm driving my second Subaru Forester and love them both. They're roomy but not huge and corner like a sports car.

The only sporty Ateca is the top of the range one.

imissthesouth · 18/08/2020 13:41

my car is a range rover but i've driven and owned mercedes cars before, wouldn't go with the GLA as it feels a little cheap on the interior, audi's are lovely though, have you thought about a q5? No experience with the other cars i'm afraid

imissthesouth · 18/08/2020 13:43

Thinking about it my friends car is a volvo (the huge xc90) and it's so so comfortable and spacious, volvos are also very reliable

Elai1978 · 18/08/2020 14:23

audi's are lovely

Audis are junk. The cheapest, nastiest engineering they can get away with under the thinnest veneer of quality. Bought by people who value style over substance in exactly the same way as Range Rovers. RR have their very own special level of shitness though, get a bad one and you’re in for a painful experience.

The build quality is poor if you buy a cheaper one. get in an S7 for example and it's all leather and much better build quality. Most cars these days are built with cheap nasty plastic, you get what you pay for at the end of the day

You miss the point entirely. Build quality isn’t what the interior feels like, it’s the parts you don’t see. Take apart a Honda for example and the running joke is that no matter what you’re doing it’s a million bolts, a Lexus feels like it’s hewn from granite, the German stuff is all just plastic shit. It didn’t used to be like that though, work on an early 90s SL or 7 Series and you get the same feeling of quality, the quality that gave these marques the reputations that they’re still trying to milk to this day. The reliability ratings say otherwise.

Bagelsandbrie · 18/08/2020 16:47

Kia’s are great cars. If you can get a fairly newish one it should have lots of warranty left. We had a kia venga for years and it was the best and most reliable car we ever had - loads of room too, even though looks small from the outside. If you’re considering a sportage have a look at a venga too. The back seats and boot space is huge! The only reason we got rid of ours was because some idiot went into the back of us and it was written off Sad we actually wanted to buy another one but couldn’t find a new ish one to buy.
