Another washing machine question - faulty one this time! Long but need to know what to do

My faithful washing machine packed in last May and I rushed out and bought another one (basically chose it because it had similar features to the one that had died and it could be delivered that evening).

So far so good but a couple of days later I noticed water leaking from underneath the machine. So called the number on my receipt and got the manufacturer who came out and said a part had cracked and he glued it together and told me he'd come back to replace the part the following week.

After he'd gone I thought "I'm not having a repair it's a brand new machine!!" so went down to the shop personally and got an exchange. Chose a completely different make this time.

Shop delivered the wrong machine, again had to go back to the shop as they don't give you a direct number, to arrange a replacement.

Now I've had it just less than 3 months and it has had a really noisy spin since day 1. I just thought it was normal so ignored it until it then started squeaking and clunking. An engineer came out to look at it and said the bearings had gone and ordered me some new parts.

Last night thngs came to a head because it stopped working completely. I rang the manufacturer who have given me a repair date of next Thursday so 8 days with no machine. I went to the shop who said they won't replace it as I didn't make the complaint until after their 28 day limit.

I think this is appalling and surely a washing machine that's less thatn 3 months old shouldn't need a new drum and heating element (and other part but can't remember what it is)!! (Also not helping that I have 3 kids, 1 in washable nappies and 2 in school uniform which we're going to run out of by the weekend let alone next Thursday!)

Any ideas of where I stand or what else I can do? I'm desperate and even contemplated just buying a new machine

Thought this might have been too complicated to attract a reply!

I've rinsed my wet and soiled nappies so they won't stink by next week and instructed the children not to get too dirty and dd2 not to wet the bed!

Really, really hacked off

I'm not sure there is anything you can do - presumably it's in guarantee, but the manufacturer only has to fix it in a reasonable time I think.

bad luck though. do you have a nearby laundrette/nice neighbour?

I thought things like washers always came with a years garantee?
Shouldn't it be covered by the sale of goods act? They sold you a machine that was not fit for purpose. Therefore their '28 day limit' is probably irrelevant.

They are happy to fix it but in the meantime I've got 8 days with no washer at all - considering this isn't the 1st time it's happened I'm not happy at all.

Also the sheer number of parts that are being replaced on a new machine doesn't look good

it does happen sometimes that new things go wrong - it doesn't mean it'll happen again.

still, when the engineer comes, ask him if he'll level it properly - it makes a huge differnece to the noise level, I had no idea before dh bothered to do ours.
