Hyundai i20 yay or nay?

I’m going to test drive a Hyundai i20 hopefully this week.

Does anyone have one of these or have you had one in the past?
Are they good cars? Or is there anything I should know?

Will be used for running around town, odd days away, no commuting but need to fit a fairly largish brass instrument in the boot.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I have a Hyundai (not the i20) and I love it. www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/hyundai/i20-2015/ this website is always useful for specific things to look out for.

Which model op, ie brand new or older?

I have an ix20, bloody love it! I was going to buy a brand spanking new i20, but then found this and it just works better for me.

The current model i20 has a decent sized boot, bigger than dps BMW 1 series has, they are lovely to drive, good round town etc but only come in a 1, 1.1 & 1.2 engine which is why I decided against it as although I no longer do regular motorway driving, when I do it is 200 mile jobs so went for the 1.4 model.

The 5 Yr warranty transfers with the owner so if its under 5 years you will still be covered, I had had mine a week when windscreen wipers packed up, all fixed, no charge, no question etc. Really impressed with it so far!

I had one recently as a hire car and didn’t want to give it back. Saving more now to get one earlier!!

It would be a brand new 20 plate.

I actually looked at a new version of the Vauxhall Corsa initially but it was quite pricey, then I found the Hyundai i20 which, looking at the specifications seems to be exactly the same car for less money.

I had read on here that Hyundai’s have 5 year warranty which is also good, I had a Kia Rio last time which had the 7 year warranty, but I didn’t want another Kia this time.

Aren't Kia and Hyundai from the same parent company?
I have an ix20 which is a sister of the Kia Venga.
I like my ix20 but not as much as the Seat Ibiza I once had.

Far better than the Friday-afternoon-French-built Corsa.

Very good choice the i20. And a good 5 year warranty too, if I am not mistaken.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 06/07/2020 21:19

Kia and Hyundai are the same company. The difference on warranty is Kia is 7 years or 100k miles depending on what comes first whereas the hyundai is 5 years but unlimited mileage.

I was looking at the i20 play, the only thing I will say is shop around. They varied massively in price between dealerships, but also the second you drive it off the forecourt you lose 3-5k value so might be worth looking at places like availablecar.com and looking at one that is 6months old. When I was looking I was quoted 13-17k for it from a dealership brand new but a 6month old one was 11-12k depending on mileage (all 3 I looked at had less than 10k on the clock)

Good luck with your test drive! They are fun to drive!

Agree with @Tinyhumansurvivalist

New plates are out soon. You may as well look around and get a 69 plate and save a fair amount. They may also have not been driven around as may have been preregistered to meet dealer targets and then covid meant they couldn't sell.

I20 is a bit boring but fine. Does exactly what it says on the tin as it were.
