To the best of my knowledge Seat Alhambra does.

KatyMac · 25/06/2020 22:36

Thanks - I'll have a look at that one

I am useless at cars!

Ford Galaxy - or at least they do in our old one.

KatyMac · 25/06/2020 22:50

Thanks

In our Ford Galaxy all our back seats lie flat rather than come out. I think it depends on the age of the car.

KatyMac · 25/06/2020 23:18

That's interesting - thanks

Why do you need to remove them, most, if not all 7 seaters rear two seats fold flat into the floor now.

My S-Max did, my Grand Picasso does two.

KatyMac · 26/06/2020 07:19

Well only in as much as I need as much height in the back as possible

I am comparing trailers/vans/MPVs and the only one I know anything about is the Fiat we had in 2003 in which the seats came out

When your seats are folded flat, how flat is it? And what is the height like?

Thanks :)

90cm high at opening, 1 metre deep at bottom and the seats are slid back, 116cm wide at middle of opening

Which big 7 seaters do all the back seats come out?
KatyMac · 26/06/2020 09:04

That is fabulous! Really helps

I can see me going shopping carrying a small clothes rail!!

I am sure I have put a clothes rail in the back of our galaxy. It goes completely flat.

KatyMac · 26/06/2020 13:07

Wow that's great - this is looking possible

The Fiat Ulysse was part of a joint venture with PSA Groupe (Peugeot Citroen) which produced vans and MPVs at the Sevel-Nord plant in France. The Ulysse, Peugeot 806/7, Citroen Synergie/C8 and Lancia Zeta/Phedra were the MPV versions of previous generation mid size panel vans offered by each of these brands (except Lancia) - the Citroen Jumpy, Fiat Scudo and Peugeot Expert.

Fiat has since dropped out of the joint venture (in favour of using Chrysler-derived platforms) and Toyota has joined it, as has Vauxhall now that GM Europe has been swallowed by PSA. The Citroen Spacetourer, Peugeot Traveller, Vauxhall Vivaro Life, and Toyota ProAce Verso are all essentially the current version of the Ulysse you remember, built in the same factory for the same purpose. They are, however, much closer in design/execution to the vans they're based on (the body is virtually identical this time). One of the results of the shared production line is that the seats are fully removable to transform the car back into a van, more or less. However, in the current version rows two and three are benches mounted on rails rather than individual chairs, which means that they can be unwieldy and heavy to remove.

As I understand it, the only other MPVs on the market at the moment with fully removable second and third row seats are also van-based: the VW Caravelle and Transporter combi, Mercedes V-class and Vito Tourer, and Ford Tourneo Custom. The Hyundai i800 is also van-based but I've read that the middle row is NOT removable.

If you want height from a car where the seats fold flat into the floor, then as well as the SEAT Alhambra/VW Sharan (identical cars, built on the same production line in Portugal) and the Ford Galaxy also consider the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life (again, all the same car) in XL long wheelbase form. The third row is completely removable in two halves and the middle row folds flat into the floor, while you get considerably more height from the van body. Much better fuel economy than the Alhambra/Sharan/Galaxy too.

This is fabulous!

Thanks for all the info: you all seems to know what I'm talking about :)

My problem/plan is:

I want to go to fairs/fetes/markets and festivals and sell clothes

I am a sustainable/eco business; we currently have one car between DH & I and we don't want a second car/vehicle (plus we wouldn't use it)

I would like the new car to be more sustainable/eco than the current Vauxhall Corsa

I struggle with loading/unloading clothes and display equipment as I am disabled and I find it very hard

I find travelling to an event and home again on the same day hard

I need to solve these

I had been looking at a horse trailer but wonder if a big-ish car might work better

We have a big Nissan people carrier that seats can come out of - I can’t v remember the model name, it’s some sort of letters after.Blush

QuestionableMouse · 27/06/2020 12:04

My Zafira Tourer has seats that fold completely flat. It's not as big as a Galaxy but is pretty roomy with all the seats down.

Friend has a Zafira where the boot seats fold flat but the middle row only fold over, so there's a pretty big ridge behind the seats, rather than a flat load bay iyswim.

KatyMac · 27/06/2020 14:20

Thanks guys this is great stuff

If you want a huge van with seven seats and a low environmental footprint then the Peugeot/Citroen/Vauxhall/Toyota models I outlined above are by some distance the better than VW/Ford/Mercedes equivalent in terms of fuel economy.

If you don't need a second car and aren't going to be carrying a lot of weight, then have you considered a box trailer towed behind your Corsa or other small car?

KatyMac · 27/06/2020 16:36

I have but we are concerned about driving with a box trailer (plus sleeping in it)

I don't need 7 seats I only need 4 and only occasionally

I wonder if using a car club could meet the occasional 4 seats issue

The Chrysler Voyager is a seven seater with fully removable seats

tabulahrasa · 16/08/2020 10:06

If you don’t need 7 seats... there’s a ford connect with 5 seats... it’s basically a small van but with passenger seats.

tabulahrasa · 16/08/2020 10:08

Ford Tourneo connect... had to google it.

NoodieRoodie · 16/08/2020 10:11

Ford Grand Tourneo Connect is the 7 seater version. All of the back seats fold flat so it's effectively a van and it's quite tall. They're all diesels but you can get it in a 1.5 engine and ours is only £30 tax a year and no more expensive to insure than our Skoda Fabia was.
