Is there such a thing as a 'nice' looking doll anymore?

You know the sort of thing I mean - something that doesn't look like it's churned off a plastic line somewhere.

Dd ADORES my old tatty Sasha doll baby, but keeps pulling the arms off.... We've tried walkdorf dolls, but none of them seem to be at all age-suitable (she's 19 mths)

The Corolle (Corelle?) dolls are often very nice, although a little dearer than other non-function dolls.

Have you seen the ones in the Holz catalogue. They are very pricey but look nice.

fihi · 23/09/2007 21:44

all the ones i've seen are very plastic. DD 21mo. Hoped it might improve when they can have age 3+ ones

oodles of toys have some lovely dolls, fabric ones, they look very sweet, one comes in a bag that looks like a pea pod... the carolle dolls are very lovely too, soft bodied with hair, I wish I had known about them when I was getting my dd a doll....

mazzystar · 23/09/2007 21:55

manhattan toys have some lovely soft ones
ds has the baby stella
have just bought one of the peapod ones on ebay for dd for xmas
older girls might like the lilydolls
all v wholesome but not fun-less

myriad have some nice dolls in the waldorf section in play. They are expensive though.

funnypeculiar · 23/09/2007 22:16

Tried myriad, Carotte, they are lovely dolls ... but all a bit too edible/pull-apartable for dd (when not cuddling dolls, she does like to dismember them )

Just had another look on the Holz Toys web-site and they have some lovely, quite sturdy looking vinyl dolls. They are expensive but look made to last. They remind me of Sasha dolls but better looking

krabbiepatty · 23/09/2007 22:26

You can get sashas off, ahem, ebay, some in mint condition. Your DD may be a bit young still...

WideWebWitch · 23/09/2007 22:26

I've just been browsing baby Chou Chou, ewwww.

Carotte · 24/09/2007 20:19

Sorry, you said in your post you'd tried Waldorf, I didn't read it properly.

Did you see the toddler doll though, in the baby section? My baby has one of those and a friend with a dd of 18 months says its their favourite thing. It has lasted all kinds of bashings although she said it looks a bit odd and lumpy after she washed it too hot.

Tridias do some nice looking dolls- not cheap but proper looking.
