I need a lamp for 4yr old dd. She needs to be able to switch it on and off so it has to be cool to the touch. Preferably not Barbie or Disney Princess Any suggestions (I saw the thread on the auto fading one, sounds good but I don't really need that function)

Mine don't have one.
The hall light stays on for a bit though.

Ceolas · 23/09/2007 21:33

My DDs have a flower wall light from Ikea

Tutter · 23/09/2007 21:33

ds2 has a lovely john lewis one

very soft light - great atm for bfing

they had a girls one too

will go look for link...

Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 21:33

what about the flower one in ikea or ladybird. screws easily on the wall, an has on switch on the wire

FabulousKbear · 23/09/2007 21:33

Just a regular small lamp. DS has had this since he was 3 and has never touched the bulb. You could get one with the switch that is down the wire rather than near the lightbulb.

Tutter · 23/09/2007 21:34

hmm they don't have it online

Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 21:34

Is the flower wall light bright enough to read by?

DS who is 3 just has a normal lamp but it is on his chest of drawers across the room from the bed so not at bedside. It stays on all night.

DD who is 6 has a wall light above her bed. It has a pull switch. It either stays on all night or I turn it off when i go to bed.

cece · 23/09/2007 21:36

Use 25 watt night light light bulbs though

Tottie32 · 23/09/2007 21:37

dd1 reads with hers on,,,, it is up the pillow end

MorocconOil · 23/09/2007 21:37

A metal ikea light that screws onto wall. It comes in several colours, white blue and red, and has a metal spider's web grid to prevent burns. One of the DS's also has a globe that lights up next to his bed.

Hulababy · 23/09/2007 21:37

DD has one of those Disney Princess lihghts that turn into a torch. My brother bought it for her birthday as DD had been telling him about them She also has fairy lights round the window.

thomcat · 23/09/2007 21:40

A toadstool. From GLTC or somewhere like that.

They also have a net of fairylights that hangs over the back of the door. From habitat.

Never leave any of them on, just for getting ready for bed / story time.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 23/09/2007 21:40

Hulababy - yes dd has seen those but I can think of loads of reasons why she shouldn't have one

OP posts:
DANCESwithHughJackman · 23/09/2007 21:41

Thomcat - this one isn't for leaving on all night either, it's just for her to read by if she wakes up really early mainly (so dh and I can get that precious 10 mins more sleep!)

OP posts:
ledodgy · 23/09/2007 21:42

we have this one she has it on for most of the night and as it's low wattage it doesn't get hot at all.

cocolepew · 23/09/2007 21:42

My dd has one of the torch/lamps that charge during the day. She uses it as a torch, stuck between the headboard and the wall (Disney Princess). She also has a glow bear,it changes colour and after half an hour switches off, She likes it because it goes in her bed and is easy to switch on(push its paw).

cece · 23/09/2007 21:45

I am shocked at how many don't sleep with a light on all night! Perhaps I should stop mine but if I turn them off they wake up and cry in the middle of the night

bozza · 23/09/2007 21:46

Both my children have Ikea wall lights - DS has a blue star and DD has a white flower. You can put in bulbs that are OK to read by, mine have them on timers instead of alarm clocks, ie don't get up until the light comes on, but if I fancy a lie-in I sneak in and switch the switch. But DS (6) has worked out to try it, if he wakes up in the morning so he is obviously perfectly capable of using it.

bozza · 23/09/2007 21:47

We leave the landing light on until we go to bed.

lou33 · 23/09/2007 21:47

none i have dimmer switches in their rooms

mytwopenceworth · 23/09/2007 21:52

Mine don't have one. Nor do we leave the landing light on....we get into trouble ds1 wakes up if there's light and comes stomping out of his room to get it turned off. "s'late" he barks! goes his bedroom door. Whoops.

Instead of a lamp, what about those glow in the dark stickers? I know someone whose son has a stary sky on his ceiling! Very pretty.

DANCESwithHughJackman · 23/09/2007 21:53

MTPW - I don't think she'll be able to read by glow in the dark stickers
