Family car - impossible

So we are four people- tall teen dds. We like to camp.

I'm fed up of diesels which seems to dominate the large spacious family car market - i think their value is going to crash and our driving style with (normally) daily short runs and the odd weekend isn't great for these engines ( i have dpf issues in the past).

Looking for used max 5 years old and no more than £14k and reliable. Why is this so very hard!

It's not just about camping though. The soace comes in handy all the time.
Dump run - 2 builders bags of pruning at a time, ikea purchase, 8ft Christmas tree, shove my bike in the boot- i use my big car all the time just for handy life stuff. I'm not up for giving up all that handiness.

I do also have a polo!

fair point. We went from an estate to a saloon at one point and really struggled with the dump runs!

I've just bought a feb 2019 ex demo bmw for £24k with 7k miles. Brand new would have been circa £40k. But, it's beautiful 😍

I'm coming back round to the Honda crv.

Biggest boot by far in that class ( kuga/ rav4/ tuscon/sportage/ cx5) without the price tag of the comparable models ( Santa Fe/ Tiguan). Because it got a new model in 2018 the 2017 cars got a plus spec with some extra kit. Looks like it needs to be a 1.6 diesel though - that good petrol is the current model not the previous one.

Hondas are fantastic for engine quality. I'm pro diesel. Less co2 than the equivalent petrol and EU6 nox isn't much different.

I have the current Honda CR-V (petrol) and its far bigger than any of its nearest rivals unless you go X5/Q7/Toureg.

I also had the last model CR-V, the one you refer to OP. I had two actually - one petrol, one diesel (which I still have, the 1.6 / 16-bhp model).

Again, both have been bombproof. Go for the top EX spec. Anything else would be stupid. Maintained properly, you will die before your Honda does.
