Can I use recipes in any old cookbook for bread that I make in a breadmaker or are there special recipes for bread made in breadmakers?

Much repetition of the word bread in the title but as a breadmaker virgin I'm wondering if I can just take recipes in my recipe books, put all the ingredients listed in the machine and sit back and wait for fabulous bread to come out the other end? Or do I need to buy yet more cookery books/work from the book that comes from the machine?

You should have been given a breadmaker receipe book with it.....never tried the non-book ones but my sister swears they go horribly wrong!

Best results with a breadmaker tend to be with very exact measuring of the ingredients from recipes specifically for breadmaking machines. Even a bit out on that and the result may be edible but not as you expected. Try the library, maybe, if you don't fancy splashing out big bucks on a book.

I used to have a breadmaker but found the thing took so long and at the end of it I only had one loaf that was tricky to cut into slices for sandwiches as they ended up like doorsteps! Also timed it one day, set the breadmaker to go and then set about making bread by hand, and guess which finished baking first? I sold it.
