Educational vids for almost 10 month old upwards

Hi. I'm looking into getting a few videos for my almost 10 month old. Any recommendations?? I'd like educational, musical, action ones that will grow with him and hopefully increase my husbands repertoire of songs as "wheels on the bus" is getting a little wearing now :/ Please no teletubbies as, educational or not, I simply won't be able to bare listening to it. Cheers.

We like the Baby Einstein series. My girls have Baby Mozart and Baby Newton.

my goodness is your bub 10 months old now Kiwicath?
I remember your post about waiting in Cairo for bub to come out.... doesn't time fly
(have I got this right or am I drunk again?)

I know you don't want the teletubbies but they are a pretty good start.

seriously what about Sesame street, they do counting and letters and shapes and kids stay glued to them.
Plus the music is 'real ' music and not chirpy piping crap.

I was about to recommend the Baby Einstein series too, although I appreciate that's not really song based For increasing song knowledge, the Tweenies do a series of sing a long type videos which are very popular with my ds1.

My main advice would be to go to your local library - they often have kids videos to rent very cheaply (about £1 for a week's rental, if I remember right) and that way you can "try before you buy".

Suzy, of course you're right. How could I have forgotten Sesame Street? My eldest used to watch it all the time (well not ALL the time), and I swear that's how she learnt all her letters and numbers. (She knew them all by the time she was 2.25.) My youngest isn't as into Sesame Street, I think because her sister has grown out of it and watches other things now, but I wish she would watch Sesame Street instead of Clifford or something more often.

My dd was given some Baby Bach/Baby Mozart ones at about 10 months and had no interest in them whatsoever. Teletubbies, on the other hand, always had her captivated! She also enjoyed a Tumble Tots action songs video for a while, but that one soon wore thin.

Can you borrow some from a library to see if he enjoys them before forking out good money on something which he might hate?

Yes suzy, time flys doesn't it. He'll be 10 months on the 23rd. Still living here in Sharm, Sinai but don't know for how much longer - the bombs are getting a bit close to home now . I only wish we had a library where we are, still have to rely on kind souls leaving books behind when they go home - kids videos are few and far between though. I grew up with Sesame Street in NZ, infact that stupid chef that falls down the stairs with X number of cakes still haunts me today - LOVE IT THOUGH!!!!. Can you still buy them new or should I e-bay?

you can buy them on Amazon and ebay. Yes that chef with 10 chocolate sundaes, I remember him.

Oh dear are you seriously thinking of going home?

suzywong · 10/10/2004 13:53

Kate my Dh learned to speak English from Sesame Street, it's ace.

Oh and Kiwicath they have a good webiste with stuff suitable for babies \link{http://www.sesameworkshop.org/sesamestreet/\here)

Well yes .... have been "thinking" about going home for 8 years now but the lure of the sea, diving, weather and way of life keeps us here. Had a fabulous delivery in Cairo but if we are blessed with #2 we will definitely make tracks back to NZ. After 15 years of wandering, I'm starting to get a yearning to be near family - oh dear, obviously getting old and sentimental
